Scot North is intrigued when he is invited to a New Year’s Eve celebration on a private island. But his host is a mysterious man who seems to know a little too much about him…
In late December, Scot North is mysteriously summoned from his London home to a private island to ring in the new year with an unknown host. As midnight and the highly anticipated Blue Moon approach, Scot grows more and more baffled as to exactly why he's been invited…and what is the connection between this New Year's event and the bizarre encounter he experienced in an underground club the month before?

Christmas and Holiday stories are great, but most of them are contemporary. Fantasy also happens on a regular basis (just think “Santa magic” and all the elf stories), but paranormal ones are fairly rare. There have been a few I have enjoyed this year, and ‘Night of the Blue Moon’ is one of them. It starts out looking quite “contemporary” and is set in London, but there is an air of mystique around right from the start.
Scot has this weird itch accompanied by flulike symptoms, his senses have become a lot more acute, he has a scar on his wrist from an only vaguely recalled recent encounter in an underground club, and he thinks he is being followed by a secretive man who hides his face and vanishes as soon as Scot looks outright at him. You see what I mean? There were enough “signs and portents” for me to smell the proverbial paranormal rat by page three.
I can’t say too much else without ruining the story for you though, so let me just say there is plenty of creepiness and quite a few surprises. The New Year’s Eve celebration is the highlight of the story, and the reveal of what has been going on proves to be very unsettling for Scot at first. Luckily he is resilient!
If you like your Holiday stories with lots of mysterious hints, a paranormal touch, and a surprisingly happy ending, then you might like this short story.
