Book Review

This is a remarkable book. There is a magnificent balance of story line, character development, along with place and setting enhancement that kept me thoroughly engrossed. I do have a fond and longstanding affection for Native Americans. Ergo this dramatic compilation was simply magical. The people and a wonderfully well concealed significant future event where everyone but the key woman is totally aware added to the awe. The clan protects the woman on multiple levels and weaves in and out of standard happenings and wondrous otherworldly manifestations that support and cloak the developing narrative. This novel is consummately engaging. Bravo!

Elizabeth Crew, more frequently referred to as Beth, has everyone's attention. Nevertheless, Beth is a bit of a mystery initially even though we are informed of her adoptive history, her five year connection to her lover Dusty, her pregnancy, her African-American heritage, and her choice to follow Dusty's request to go to her family's farm after their terrible crisis. It is some time before Beth gets glimpses of the big picture. However, since she did go to her girlfriend's clan instead of Westport, CT, with her adoptive mother, she does get and accept the best protection for herself and her baby. I became more aware of all the extraordinary intricacies surrounding the clan along with Beth and that is a wonderfully fun way to become invested in the tale and the people. Marvelous!

Isha is initially alienated from the clan and she, along with her son, is doing her best to stay afloat. Isha's son Marc is delectably precocious and really wants to help to ease his mother's loneliness. So when the two of them accidentally - or so it appears - interact with Beth, Marc is confident he sees the answer to his mother's loneliness. Marc is only one of many matchmakers within this story but his love and care for his mother is especially delightful. Though Isha has sound reasons within her own assessment of things to stay away from the clan, when she is approached to be Beth's guardian, she has a deeply felt sense of duty in addition to her strong, loving attraction to Beth. Isha's internal and historical complexity provides a rather wondrous energy and felicitous dimension that adds a most special flavor, cohesion, and noteworthy depth to this already rich multi-faceted treatise. Isha captured my heart while challenging my point of view. She is a pleasure and then some. Spectacular!

I definitely recommend this book and bestow high praise on the author for managing to create such a fantastic experience that will continue to thrill me and haunt my dreams for years to come. Monumental!
