Book Blurb

After a fairly short engagement, Cole Morgan and his new werewolf husband, Evan West, decide to elope to London. However, a family tragedy back home soon cuts things short.

Evan’s grandfather is dead, making Evan the new alpha. Before it’s even started, the honeymoon period is over. Evan must not only try to deal with his grief but also tackle all his newfound responsibilities and accept his new role.

Cole knew that one day Evan would be the alpha, but he hadn’t thought about what that would mean for him and his own role in the pack. With tensions higher than ever before with his own family, and feeling like a constant failure with the pack, Cole finds himself struggling, causing cracks to appear in the couple’s new marriage. Cole is sure that they can handle anything as long as they stick together.

He just hopes that they can.

Book Review

More adventures from Cole, the sassy human journalist who snagged his grumpy werewolf boss, and Evan, his fiancé and reluctant alpha? Count me in! Cole and Evan have come far since the first book in this humorous take on human-werewolf relationships, and yet they still have a lot to deal with now that they are married. After all the action and excitement of the first two books, it was fascinating to see that neither Cole nor Evan need any external stimulus to create drama – they are excellent at it all by themselves. The issues they have may be kicked off by Evan’s grandfather’s death, but the underlying problems would have caught up with Cole and Evan sooner or later. As this third installment shows, it happens sooner.

Evan is a control freak of the first order, and when trying to fill his grandfather’s large shoes proves impossible – what does Evan do? Does he delegate or ask for help, like a sensible person would? Of course he doesn’t, he is Evan West after all. He is determined to be a good alpha, just like his grandfather, and run all the family businesses, and the magazine, and be married to Cole, who is supposed to be patient and support him at the same time.

Not. Happening.

Cole is as impulsive as ever. He realizes that Evan would become the pack alpha – at some point, much later in their lives. But when it happens right after their wedding in London during a business trip – the wedding nobody has been told about – and interrupts their honeymoon, Cole is at a loss. He feels selfish for wanting to see more of Evan than he does, but only a little. Mostly he has no idea what being a pack alpha means for Evan, or for himself as the alpha’s mate, nor does he understand how families work – human or werewolf – since he never had one of his own that was worth mentioning. Cole struggles with his role in Evan’s life, the lack of attention from Evan, and the fact that he has no idea how to build relationships with all the people in the pack.

They end up fighting. A lot. Using sex to make up no longer works, and they need to figure out how to deal with the new stress in their lives. Not an easy process, I can tell you that much. Cole is as stubborn as Evan, and the passion they used to pour into physical activities is now devoted to emotional outbursts, fights, and accusations. What a ride!

If you like Cole and Evan and want to see what happens when they get married, if you want to see how Evan deals with a serious loss and how Cole learns about family, and if you’re looking for a read that is as emotionally intense as it is ultimately hopeful, then you will probably enjoy this novella as much as the first two in this series.
