Book Blurb

— One day you’ll be pumping my gas —

Mike Miller’s life has gone to shit. The formerly popular high school quarterback now works at a gas station in the middle of nowhere. The last thing he needs is meeting the guy he used to bully at school and seeing him all sorts of polished up. James is now the proud owner of an amazing silver Jaguar and a self-made millionaire. It seems that the day couldn’t get any worse for Mike, but James ‘Lovelace’ Austin might just turn out to be his golden ticket out of the job he hates.

When James Austin meets Mike Miller, his high school crush and tormentor all in one, working at an old, dirty gas station, it feels as if the stars have finally aligned in his favor. He wants to finally get his revenge on the guy, but when Mike turns out to be gay, the whole afternoon takes a turn for the surreal. Instead of just humiliating Mike at his workplace, James decides to hire him for a weekend at a conference he’s attending. A hot guy by his side is the only accessory James needs to rub his success in the faces of his frenemies.

Only problem is, a gay Mike Miller might be too much of a blast from the past than James ever expected. If James wants his nerdy heart safe from the hunky jock, he needs to keep Mike at arms length. The task would be a lot easier if Mike wasn’t unashamedly hitting on James. Or is it just James’s money Mike is after?

Book Review

Ah, I love me a good Cinderfella story. And this one has it all, and then some. Set in today’s world, and with characters who are very real, the story managed to grab me from the very start with its quirky sense of humor and the premise that an ex-bully meets the guy he used to torment – only this time the former tormented becomes the tormentee. It could have easily developed into a rather ugly revenge-driven tale, but it never goes there. Instead, what unfolds is surprising, romantic, and had me smiling from ear to ear by the end.

Mike is not just down on his luck, he’s bitter about it. A dead-end job has him eat humble pie, and nothing reminds him more of his social decline from much-loved quarterback to lowly gas station employee than “Mr. Jaguar”, and newly rich and successful ex-classmate James,  turning up to make his life hell. Well, that is what Mike expects. He was never able to show his real feelings for James when they were in school, being deeply in the closet, and instead making clumsy attempts to get his attention that ended up in traumatic bullying. Mike’s shock when he realizes exactly who he has been trying to impress (with exactly nothing) is palpable. The offer he receives from James is pretty bad, since he thinks he’s in for a world of pain, but he doesn’t believe he has a choice. Not with that much money on offer. Money, however hard it will be to earn it, that gives him a chance at a better life than pumping gas.

James is as shocked as Mike when he recognizes him. He may start out wanting some revenge, showing off all the great things he has achieved now he’s a successful businessman. But he quickly realizes a few things. Mike is gay. Mike didn’t want to bully him, he just wasn’t ready to come out and had no social graces. He still lusts after the hunky ex-quarterback. Mike is gay and seems to be available. What starts out as an “accompany me on the weekend” and “be my pretend date” quickly turns into James wanting a lot more. But how the heck is James going to admit that and get away from the deal he made?

If you like sweet romances with lots of humor thrown in as a bonus, if you enjoy reading abut men who are made for each other but take a rather long time to realize this and have a very clumsy way of trying to make it happen, and if you’re looking for a fairy tale romance with a LOT of heat, then you will probably like this free novella.
