Book Blurb

Markus always admired his mentor, Nicodemus. Over his two years as an apprentice physician, Markus' admiration has grown into something deeper, but he has never been brave enough to admit it. One summer evening, a ragged man comes to the clinic claiming he is cursed. During the treatment, chaos breaks loose as the patient attacks them. Fear of losing the man he loves makes Markus doubt his ability, but there's no time for hesitation if he wants to save the badly-injured Nicodemus.

Book Review

Things may not always be as simple as they seem, and this story takes a look at the things Markus, a healing apprentice, learns when a stranger attacks him and his beloved teacher, Nikodemus. It all takes place in an unspecified fantasy-like setting with historical overtones and a little bit of magic. The atmosphere goes from peaceful to one of utter horror and bloodshed, so be prepared! A sweet little fantasy tale this is not.

Markus is hopelessly in love with his teacher, but focuses on his job of becoming a healer instead. He doesn’t want to lose his job, or the easy rapport he has with Nikodemus, and he is wiling to do pretty much anything to keep things as they are. Once the patient who comes to their clinic on the full moon starts to transform into something horrific and attacks them, Markus finds out how far he will go to protect Nikodemus.

If you like dark stories with a touch of the paranormal that veers into horror, if you enjoy reading about student-teacher admiration, and if a somewhat open ending doesn’t bother you, then you might like this short story.
