For these two men, this record could be the soundtrack to their lives – if they’re willing to mix things up.
Meticulous and organized, air traffic controller Mike Larson has every reason to be wary of mixing his passion for music with love. When Mike’s hunt to complete his Top 100 of the ‘80s list brings him to Vintage Vinyl, a shock of guyliner, dyed hair and flamboyant personality rocks his orderly world. Can he risk a step outside his comfort zone for a chance with Leon?
Flamboyant Leon Sanders uses attitude to keep others at a distance, because he doesn’t believe in love or a lasting relationship. When he turns up the charm at his music store Vintage Vinyl, he makes the best sales. Something about the quiet man beckons Leon to give love a chance, but does he dare mix it up with Mike?
When the overly orderly Mike, who is an air traffic controller, and the purposefully chaotic Leon, owner of a music store, first meet, it seems as if their love of music may be the only thing connecting them. Well, that and the fact they are attracted to each other physically. Problem is, Mike wants a relationship but is afraid he'll get hurt, and Leon just wants to enjoy his freedom to "sample" as many men as possible. I shook my head when I read the blurb, wondering how this could possibly end well.
Mike has it all figured out. He is organized in his job, has his personal planned (i.e., there is nobody in it to disrupt his peace of mind), and he doesn’t intend to ever let his heart be broken again. Then he meets Leon. The man is everything Mike thought he'd never be able to like, but their joint love of music and rock bands opens the door to a friendship that makes him wonder if there could be more. Physically, the answer is a definite yes, but Leon's emotional walls are in the way and Mike has no idea how to get through them.
Leon is flamboyant and superficially friendly, yet uses his "persona" as a tool to keep men at a distance. His father rejected him, and so did most of his lovers, so he is determined not to fall for anyone. Then he meets Mike. The man is so organized and repressed, Leon thinks he couldn’t possibly fall for him. Yet he does, and is soon in deep doodoo. The fact that he actually wants to open his heart to Mike scares him half to death.
If you like stories where opposites suddenly not only attract but match, if you enjoy reading about men who have been wounded but try to cope as best they can, and if you're looking for a short, fun read with men who learn to adapt to newly emerging feelings, then you will probably like this short story.
