Leopards are not known for being kind, loving or caring. So, it should come to no surprise that Leopard shifter Max has no desire to find a mate. He is one of the founders of the Assassin Loyalty and that’s enough social interaction for him. Or at least his thinks so, but all that changes when he’s attacked by a rouge Assassin named Cain.

Cain is a Sugar Glider. He and his twin, Reemus, may be the only of their kind left. They are constantly being hunted down and are barely surviving. The only way that they’ve gotten by so far is that they’ve become freelance Assassins. One night, Cain goes out to work a job. His target—a Leopard named Max.

Then Max and Cain both become the prey instead of the predator. As Max and Cain work together to fight the threat coming their way, they are engaged in another fight. From the moment they meet, Max and Cain have an intense attraction to each other.

Will Max and Cain survive the attack? If so, will they surrender to their passion and find happiness. Or is Max doomed to be yet another lonely Leopard?

Book Review

I had so much fun reading the first book in this series, 'Hid in the Shadows', that gave me the background of the five guys who started Assassin's Loyalty. I also met Raider and his mate, Connor, a koala shifter. Yep, you heard me. Abso-freaking-adorable! This second installment is bound to have me squeeing over cuteness again since Cain is a sugar glider shifter. Stop reading and go look it up. Talk about the cutest little marsupials. Okay, whew. I should probably recommend that you read these in order so you don't miss out on any backstory.

I liked Max, a leopard shifter, when I first met him, mostly because he and Shane dislike one another. Anything to do with Shane always provides me with entertainment, but the opportunity to have another leopard assassin whom I adore? Priceless. Cain is a snarky talker, and I adored him. The talking was a little more than Max wanted to deal with but he couldn't get Cain's delicious smell out of his nose. Max doesn't really like being alone but he's equally positive he could never be involved in a relationship.

Cain and his twin brother, Remus, are the last of their kind, they think. As twins they share a special bond but they are total opposites. Cain is sarcastic and talks all the time, whereas Remus is quiet and stone cold. It hurts Cain that his brother has erected a mental block against him so even though Remus can feel Cain's emotions, it's not reciprocal. Cain is worried that his twin is dead inside with no emotions. When the human hunters come for them, Max shows up to the rescue and takes them back to the Loyalty headquarters. Much like when Connor first got there, Cain is nervous about being in such close confines with so many predatory shifters. Max has promised that no harm will come to them and Cain needs to trust him to survive what's about to occur.

Another funny addition to the series, plus I got to see Shane, and that always makes me happy. I'm hoping the next installment will involve Remus because I want to know why he's so cold to his twin. Max and Cain are really sweet together and I enjoyed reading their story.
