Matthew Hawk is relieved to learn his son-of-a-bitch father was really his son-of-a-bitch uncle. His real father was the late Earl of Hawksfell. To his surprise, his half brother, the new earl, welcomes him to Hawksfell Manor.
Posy Davidson, a maid at the manor, has a sordid reputation. She loves footman William Beckett, but Matthew was her first lover. They rekindle their passion, but she still wants William. She’s afraid she’s as bad as everyone thinks.
William and Matthew both want Posy, but can’t deny their own attraction. They agree to share her and each other. Matthew wants to love them but learned to hide his feelings from his abusive uncle.
When the earl throws a masked ball in Matthew’s honor, Posy and William attend in disguise. The three of them flirt and dance and their passion reaches its pinnacle. But can Matthew drop his mask and show them his heart?
The third entry into the ‘Lords of Hawksfell Manor’ series is yet another delightful variation on the main theme from books one and two. I am glad I have read the first novellas, and even though this book would stand on its own, for maximum enjoyment I do recommend you not miss out on the first two stories. Lord Hawksfell, from book one, has a half-brother. This all becomes clear after the death of the ‘son-of-a-bitch-uncle’ as Matthew, viscount Lindhurst, calls him. The most delicious element in this story is the softening and expansion of Posy, a member of the staff at Hawksfell Manor from books one and two. Wonderful!
Viscount Lindhurst, Matthew Hawk, flies into a bit of a rage when learns he was duped by his uncle. Well, that was just one more strike against the man from Matthew’s point of view. Now, he needs to meet his half-brother, claim his other inheritance, and continue on with his tortured life! Matthew was such a refreshing, honest, and up front fellow about his ‘curse’ and the somewhat miserable treatment he received from his uncle. I really liked Matthew right off the bat and he only got better! Fantastic!
Posy Davidson has learned the hard way that she is paying a price for having so embellished her non-exploits within Hawksfell Manor including having the Lady of the Manor dislike her rather fiercely. She very much misses her friend and roommate, Mary, from book two, but she has taken comfort from her liaison with footman William Beckett. She is a treasure and a wonder in comparison to her previous renderings and I found her to be incredibly adorably impressive. Touché!
William Beckett is admirable beyond words. His love for Posy, his love of life, his contentment, and strength really provides the foundation for this story’s ménage à trois. He is a complete tribute to men, to servants, to love, and I flat out adored him. Ahhh!
The sexual heat is top notch, totally intense on occasion, but the subterfuge surrounding the earl’s masked ball introducing his brother to the community was a touch of brilliance. This third entry into the mix is award worthy as far as I am concerned.
