Congratulations! You have a fated mate!

That’s what the card says. Grey, an Alpha wolf shifter, laughs at it, though. Fated mate? What a joke! He has tried enough dating websites in the few months to choke a horse shifter and he’s done with all of them. Besides, having a mate would mean joining a pack, and that will just bring up a past Grey has no intention of doing.

But Mates, Inc. has an agenda that can not be ignored or put off. Grey has a mate, and the powers that be are determined he’s going to meet him come hell or high water...or a past best forgotten...

Book Review

‘Mates, Inc.’  is the second story around Oletti shifters – a group of shifters who come with some very special traits. The two main characters from book one (Graham and Hyden) are referred to and a bigger context for this world is set, but this book can be read as a standalone. I hope that the bigger picture of this world will become clearer In the next volume because I am still a little in the dark after this second installment.

The beginning of this story is hilarious. While introducing Grey, an alpha wolf shifter and one of the main characters, it also makes fun of dating sites and their marketing schemes. But as Grey’s search for his mate turns more frantic, the tone of the story changes, and some interesting details about this world come to light. Pack politics, a rival pack and their plans, and the role of alphas and omegas in general are all more complicated than expected. And as for Grey’s mate? While it was pretty obvious (to me) who it was before the end of the first chapter, it was great fun to follow Grey’s convoluted path to the point where he got the message – way after chapter one.

Grey’s attempted dates with various types of men are so funny, they made me laugh out loud. Each of them has at least one fatal flaw that means Grey will never get along with them. Then some secrets in Grey’s past emerge that explain why he is so determined to find his mate. And when he does find him, more misunderstandings follow in a comedy of errors that almost makes them miss each other. Luckily this is not the case, but even once they have mated, things don’t get much easier. The picture is much bigger than Grey (or I) expected, and the story takes off in a new direction. Very well done!

If you like humor with your shifter romances, if a man who is desperate to find his mate and will do almost anything to make him happy piques your interest, and if you’re looking for a read that is as hilarious as it is hot and suspenseful, then you will probably like this novella. Its ending is rather abrupt, so I am definitely looking forward to book three!
