One key to the success of Justin and Toby’s marriage is plenty of sexual variety, sometimes with other men they know through the local BDSM club. While Toby assumes the submissive role in their power exchanges, it’s more often Justin who generously caters to Toby’s erotic appetites. Toby’s interest in flirting with a salesman should be trivial in comparison to his other desires. Instead, it sends both men down uncomfortable paths.
Toby manages to assure Justin that it was harmless fun, or so it seems at first. More troubling than Justin being unconvinced is that Toby doesn’t entirely believe his own story. When Toby finally figures out he wants something only another man can give him, he knows it won’t be easy to tell Justin. Is realizing a fantasy -- even an exceptionally compelling one -- worth the risk?
NOTE: This book was previously published by Breathless Press in November 2012.
Variety of all kinds can be good, if it is what both partners need. Variety of the sexual kind can be risky because both partners' needs may not be the same. Misunderstandings and jealousy are huge watchouts. Especially when that play involves bringing in other men.
Toby and Justin thrive on challenges and on trying different things. While they are married, and love each other a lot, they also have an open relationship when sexual play is involved. Personally, I will never understand this, but reading stories like these helps me see what it might look like. The author does not gloss over any of the issues (emerging jealousy, the fear of losing their partner), and this made the story more realistic for me. Toby and Justin talk everything through, and that is the only thing that will keep a relationship like this stable. Well, that and a very high level of trust.
As for the BDSM play: while not the focus of the story, I thought the scenes I got to witness were hot. A major factor for me was that their activities are clearly consensual, and there is very little D/s. Toby almost demands the things Justin does to him. Talk about topping from the bottom! It's all about having fun and experiencing different types of sensation, not really about the submission –other than in the moment of the scene.
If you don’t like stories with multiple partners and lovers having sexual encounters with other men, this story is not for you. If you are curious about the dynamics in an open, yet committed relationship, this story can give you a glimpse into the lives of two such men, and if you like your stories on the spicy side of kinky, then you will probably enjoy this short book.
