Book Blurb

As an Assassin, Luke has learned to trust only a limited number of shifters – his fellow Assassin’s Loyalty members. When he makes a promise to one of his few friends’ new mate, Conner, to find the Mountain Lion that saved him, Luke had no idea that his world is about to change.

Calvin knew he couldn’t let the slavers capture his friend Conner – a rare Koala shifter – so he sacrificed himself so Conner could escape. After he killed his first master, he ends up on the auction block losing what little dignity he had left. He didn’t think things could get any worse until he’s purchased by an Assassin!

Both Luke and Calvin quickly find out that the other changed his world for the better – however there is a pesky problem of a bounty on Calvin’s head and why would Mitchell from the Coalition be visiting the mansion to speak only to Calvin?

Book Review

It has been far too long since I treated myself to a visit to Flint, Michigan, and the guys of the Assassin’s Loyalty. This group of assassins are an interesting bunch and after completely enjoying Raider’s story and then Max’s, I was ready to see Conner’s friend, Calvin, get his own happy ever after. Conner is a koala and is mated to Raider, the head of the Assassin’s Loyalty (loved their story in book one). Conner met Calvin when they both were being held by slavers but Calvin sacrificed his freedom to let Conner escape. Luke, the tech wizard of the Loyalty, promised Conner he would find Calvin and bring him back. All these months of searching, though, and Luke’s fascination with this man he has never met has only increased.

Calvin can’t believe it when an Assassin bids on him at auction and wins. It’s not until they are in Luke’s car safely heading away from the warehouse that Luke tells Calvin he’s free and coming back to the Loyalty headquarters to see Conner. Calvin’s self-image has really taken a beating (literally and figuratively) all these months away from home. He was captured and sold to a sadistic master. When Calvin finally got the opportunity to kill his master and escape, he was caught by the guards two blocks away and returned to the slavers where he has spent the past few months. He’s very attracted to Luke but believes Luke sees him as a coward who can’t take care of himself. If he only knew that Luke fell in love with Calvin from his photo.

Calvin’s former master’s brother puts out a huge bounty on Calvin, meaning every low-life assassin and mercenary is gunning for him. Even weirder though, is how Calvin’s parents have up and skipped town as soon as Calvin was rescued. Calvin doesn’t know what to make of that and he’s very hurt by their betrayal. Of course, once Mitchell from the Coalition comes to see him and explains a few things, Calvin’s entire life is changed in an instant.

I really liked seeing Luke and Calvin find each other and their love story was very sweet. These assassins who all think they’re cold and heartless truly are big mush monsters underneath the grumpy exterior. I did get a glimpse of Shane which always makes me happy, plus ideas regarding future Loyalty members stories. Thanks, Stephani, your assassins kick ass!
