Warren Sutherland, heir to a multimillion-dollar fortune, has a target on his back. Someone wants him dead. After a botched murder attempt, Warren washes up on Sinn Island. He embraces the role of an amnesiac and hides behind the disguise of a maintenance man for the island.
Months after a stranger—only known as Mitch—was found unconscious on Sinn’s shore, James Demour has fallen in love. Caring for the man created a bond neither could deny. Despite their blossoming relationship, James knows there is more to Mitch’s story, and he fears what truth Mitch hides.
Warren doesn’t want to lose James, but his guilty conscience haunts him. Caught in lies he thought would protect him, he realizes the only chance at happiness is to admit to his ruse.
When the threat arrives on Sinn’s shores, Warren is in the fight for his life. Can he survive without James? And if he does, will their relationship survive the truth?
Losing your memory must be a pretty rough experience, but what happens to Warren, heir to a multimillion-dollar fortune, is even worse. Someone tries to kill him while on a Caribbean cruise and throws him overboard, leaving him for dead. Instead, Warren ends up on Sinn Island, where James is the first man he trusts, but not enough to tell him the truth. A recipe for disaster if I’ve ever seen one! The result is an emotionally intense story as Warren tries to figure out who attempted to murder him while hiding on the island and falling in love with James. Hiding, that is, until one of the guests recognizes him and all hell breaks loose…
Warren has no idea who wants to kill him, and is so scared that he decides to tell absolutely none who he is. Since he’s clearly been beaten and washed up on one of Sinn Island’s beaches, it is easy for him to pretend he’s suffering from amnesia. But as the weeks pass, and he gets closer to James, the man who helped him through his first few days, Warren finds it more and more difficult to pretend. The island’s owners have already figured it out and are committed to helping Warren find the murderer, but Warren cannot find the courage to tell James. And when the killers follow Warren onto the island and James finds out the truth, Warren’s worst fears are confirmed when James is so upset and disappointed that he withdraws completely, leaving Warren exposed to all kinds of dangers.
James, who only knows Warren as Mitch, has liked him from the start. As they get to know each other he falls in love with Mitch, even knowing there are lots of things in his past he might not be aware of. But when James finds out that Mitch doesn’t suffer from amnesia at all, and didn’t trust James enough to tell him the truth, James is so disappointed that he breaks up with Mitch/Walter and walks away. Luckily, James’s best friend talks some sense into him, but by then it may be too late.
If you like stories about flawed characters who make as many mistakes as a “real” person, if two men who have fallen for each other even without knowing everything about each other sound like an interesting challenge, and if you’re looking for a read that is as full of mystery and evil plans as it is emotional and hot, then you will probably like this novella.
