Book Blurb

Oliver met Derrick while busking in the park, and they hit it off from the start. At first, Derrick’s “mysterious magician” vibe was intriguing, but after two botched dates, Oliver was ready to call it quits.

Fearing he lost his chance with Oliver, Derrick makes a last-ditch effort to win Oliver’s heart with a romantic Valentine’s date. But when love and magic collide, things tend to go awry. Will these two guys make it through the date unscathed?

Book Review

The month of Valentine’s Day is upon us, and this story provided me with a great start to reading all kinds of sweet and romantic love stories about this special holiday. Though I have to say, due to its somewhat unconventional name of ‘Bad Valentine’, this is not your “typical” Valentine’s story by any means. I am happy to report that the first of four books in this series met my expectation of being an unusual take on this lovers’ holiday.

Oliver is a musician and a composer, and as successful as he has been professionally, his personal life is another matter. He really likes Derrick, a man he met in the park while busking, but Derrick has proven to be rather unreliable. Oliver is really upset about being neglected when Derrick keeps vanishing from their dates or doesn’t even turn up for events that are important to Oliver. So when Derrick apologizes and wants to do something special for Valentine’s Day, Oliver is justifiably skeptical.

Derrick is a magician who claims to have psychic powers – not something Oliver is inclined to believe. At least, not at first. A few strange events and a couple of fun activities for their Valentine’s afternoon date later, I was beginning to raise my eyebrows as Oliver started to take notice. I won’t say too much else so as not to spoil the surprise, but I can reveal that not all is as it seems…

If you like sneakily funny romances, if supernatural surprises are your thing, and if you’re looking for an entertaining read with a nice twist, then you will probably like this charming short story. I am looking forward to reading the other three!
