Secret romance and stolen kisses in the dark are thrilling at first, but can love grow when Marcus is too scared to admit he’s gay? With Brishen’s help, he explores the wonders of a new sexual adventure he never before imagined. Is he willing to commit to a relationship with another man? Or will the fear of losing himself to another drive the lovers apart?

Book Review

There are those who believe that our destiny is pre-determined and can be found written in the cards. For Brishen and Marcus in K.C. Grim's book, 'Love is in the Cards' this is literally true for the two men when they discover their future through a tarot card reading. Although surprised by the revelation, Brishen, who is gay, believes this is possible, but to Marcus, who has never considered being romantically involved with another man, it seems ludicrous. Marcus is bewildered and frightened. The question is, will Marcus be able to stand up to the pressures of coming out so he can be with Brishen?

I really liked Brishen. He's unique, intelligent, talented, self-assured, kind, and respectful. He loves and admires his grandmother and, in return, his grandmother loves and admires him. She watches out for him without smothering him. She lets him make his own choices. Even though he knows what's coming, Brishen realizes that he has to let Marcus make the first move and tries to be patient. When Marcus does, Brishen is delighted and can't wait to share the pleasures of loving a man with Marcus, who turns out to be quite the eager pupil. Their sexual encounters are some of the hottest, yet still respectful and loving, I've ever read in a YA book.

Alone, in the heat of passion, it's simple for Marcus to declare his love to Brishen, but when they are discovered by his parents, he freezes and is unable to admit he's gay. That alone is hurtful enough, but when Brishen overhears him vehemently deny Brishen's importance in his life, it breaks Brishen's heart. I admired Brishen for the dignified way he handled Marcus's denial. As much as he loves Marcus, he refuses to be diminished in any way. He holds his head up high and goes on with his life. Marcus begins to realize his mistake and prays that Brishen loves him enough to forgive him. He knows it's going to take something huge to win back his affection and comes through with flying colors.

I enjoyed the tone of this book, the way it flowed, and how just enough about Tarot was explained in order to get a sense of what the cards meant and how important some of them were, i.e., Brishen's special card in relation to Marcus's predictions. Those who are familiar with Tarot will understand and those who are new to the art will be well enough versed with the explanation provided to understand its significance.  I also appreciated the way Brishen and Marcus blended their feelings and their bodies into beautiful, sensual, lovemaking sessions, rather than the carnal, instant gratification sex fests that they might have been had the guys not been so respectful and loving toward each other. I'd recommend this book to anyone who appreciates strong, well developed characters, who are passionately involved with each other, enhanced by a touch of paranormal events in order to help two people find their one true love. Thank you, K.C., for the delightful story.
