Silas had always expected to find his fated mate early in life, like most pack leaders do. But as he nears his fortieth birthday, still single, he begins to accept that maybe he’s not meant to have a mate after all. When he finds an intruder in his territory, a young cop who smells human but also like everything he’s longed for, Silas can’t help but feel a spark of hope. Could this man be part shifter? Could he be Silas’s mate?
Cory’s conservative family believes shifters are evil, but when he meets Silas, he’s shocked by the pack leader’s gentleness and hit with feelings of desire beyond anything he’s ever experienced. All of Cory’s fantasies center around older men who take charge and take care of him, so when Silas asks if he needs a Daddy, all he can say is yes.
Torn between his family’s expectations and the pull he feels toward Silas, Cory knows he’ll have to give up his career if he follows his heart. Silas wants Cory, not fate, to decide if they should be together, so he fights his protective instincts. But an unexpected pregnancy forces their hands, and the two men have to figure out how to fit their lives together. And maybe have love at long last.
Author's Note: Love at Long Last is the first full story in the Trillium Creek series, but you can also enjoy the prequel short, Love at Lupine Bakery. This mm shifter mpreg story contain claws, fangs, knots, cuddling with cocoa and a definite HEA.
After reading the very entertaining prequel to this series (‘Love at Lupine Bakery’) a while ago, I was curious to find out what the first full novel in the ‘Trillium Creek’ series would be like. I am happy to report that it did not disappoint. Set in the fictional small town of Emsworth, Virginia, where the Trillium Creek pack is the local shifter group in charge, this second story focuses on Silas, the pack alpha, and his unexpected thought-to-be-human mate, Cory. There are all kinds of complications, including the nasty rival Oaklands pack, Cory’s conservative, bigoted family, a runaway teenager, and some wonderful characters who support Cory to balance all the rougher stuff. Levi and Finn (now very pregnant) are back as well, and I loved seeing how well they are doing.
Silas didn’t think he’d ever find his fated mate, and he definitely didn’t expect it to be a much younger human. So when he runs into Cory he is less than prepared – and makes more than one critical mistake when handling the situation. He may be a good pack alpha and has the Trillium Creek pack thriving, but, at almost forty and never having had a long-term lover, he is not a relationship guy by any stretch of the imagination. But he means well and is a relatively fast learner, so it turns out to be less of a problem than it could have been. No, the real issues lie elsewhere.
Cory is only twenty-two, a budding police officer with ambitions to become a detective, and a virgin afraid to come out as gay because his family is extremely conservative. They are also totally anti-shifter, based on Corey’s grandmother’s claim that shifters have magic and can “hypnotize” humans, but Corey isn’t so sure. Especially not once he meets Silas and feels a strong pull toward him. It is easy for Cory to see that Silas means well, based on the way he runs his pack, so he allows himself to fall for Silas even though they are practically strangers. That is not the only strange thing that happens to Cory – because, as he soon finds out, not everything his grandmother told him is actually true.
As in most shifter worlds, the mate bond is strong and has prospective mates trusting each other quickly. The fact that Cory is pregnant after only their first encounter complicates things between two men who are still trying to figure out if and how they fit together – now they have to deal with adding a baby to their family as well. Add the anger Corey’s uncle feels about this “defection” and the dark plans the Oakland pack tries to make happen, and you end up with quite an adventure on top of a wonderful romance.
If you like paranormal stories where humans discovering the truth about their past can lead to surprising results, if you enjoy mate bonds and male pregnancy, and if you’re looking for a suspenseful read full of revelations and lot of hot man-on-man action, then you will probably like this novel. It’s a promising addition to a series I am looking forward to following.
