One fateful evening, Kadan's village is attacked by a neighboring tribe. In an attempt to save his brother from the marauders, he is knocked unconscious in the attack while biding time to let his brother flee.
Arik has been drawn to human lands by some unknown force. It doesn't take long for him to realize why: he was drawn here to save his mate.
Kadan wakes up days later to a whole new world, one high above the mountains, beyond anything he'd ever imagined. Underneath it all, however, there is a deadly conspiracy just waiting to be uncovered.
Thrown into a world he barely understands and facing a new reality that he still doesn't know what to make of, Kadan finds out that the man who saved him also happens to be his mate.
What is Kadan to do when it seems like everything in his life has suddenly been turned upside down?
It is no secret that I love dragons, be they “real” or dragon shifters, so ‘Dragon Mountain’ had my immediate attention. With a courageous main character, Kadan, who wants to protect his brother even though he isn’t the most experienced warrior himself, and a protective dragon chief, Arik, who has finally found his mate, the scene is set for an exciting adventure. While ‘Little Spitfire’ has a lot of familiar elements, like fated mates and healers using magic and a dragon lair on the top of a mountain, there are a few more unusual ones in this world as well. And the characters, especially Kadan, made all the difference for me and turned this novella into a very entertaining adventure for me.
Kadan is human, and among the poorest members of his village. His parents were killed in a past raid, and his younger brother, Kiran, is all the family he has left. So it is no surprise that he tries to protect Kiran against the attackers from a neighboring village. But when he gets overpowered and is rescued by the chief of a dragon clan, Kadan is suddenly confronted with an entirely different world. Not only does he find himself mated to Arik, the leader of the dragons who inhabit the mountaintop, he also has no idea what he is supposed to do with his life now.
Arik is a powerful dragon and runs his council with a steady hand. The previous council was ousted a while ago, for abusing their power, but Arik finds out that they have not given up. Bandits are trying to cut off the clan’s trade and supply routes, and it becomes obvious there is more to these bandits than anyone expected. Add the fact that he has to deal with a new mate, who is human and does not seem to know what his role is in Arik’s life, and Arik has his hands quite full.
If you like to explore different kinds of worlds inhabited by dragon shifters, if you want to know what it might feel like for a human to suddenly find out he is mated to a dragon chief, and if you’re looking for an adventure-filled read that turns out to be full of some very hot human/dragon interactions, then you will probably like this novella. I look forward to more books in this series!
