Book Blurb

Cardinal shifter Red works his tailfeathers off as a waiter at The Woods. He doesn’t mind working hard at the diner, but some of the customers have mean streaks and he’s an easy target. When wolf shifter Growler comes in one day for his lunch, he’s immediately taken by Red and even defends him from the porcine bullies giving Red a hard time.

Red’s boss Reisha warns him about getting together with Growler. The guy is a wolf and Red’s kind are nothing but a light snack to wolves. Still, Red likes to make up his own mind, and sometimes a little danger is fun to flirt with, especially if it gets him what he needs, so when Growler offers to give him a ride on his motorcycle, Red is quick to accept.

Predator and prey usually make uneasy bedfellows, but that doesn’t seem to be the case for Growler and Red. Will they be able to fly in the face of convention and find the perfect nest together?

Book Review

This super cute fairy tale about cardinal shifter, Red, proves that opposites attract – even when one partner is a prey shifter and the other is a predator. A wolf to be precise, and I have to say he’s a really nice one. With the parallels to Grimm’s version clear in both the color of Red’s shifted form and the allure of the strong, somewhat wild wolf, once I read the blurb, I couldn’t wait for another treat in the ‘Fairytale Shifters’ series.

Red works hard, deals with bullying from customers admirably well, but he isn’t really enjoying his job. When Growler appears in his restaurant, he is fascinated from the start, and despite his boss warning him against going with the wolf shifter, Red decides to accept the guy’s invitation.

Growler is an alpha wolf through and through, but he has no intention of eating Red as a snack. His cabin in the woods is just the place to get romantic – and boy, does he know how to make Red sing! The longer-term prospects are less certain, but Growler is one determined guy. And he does not believe in “the old ways” – of keeping predator and prey separate. That one definitely made me chuckle.

If you like fairy tales with very little angst and lots of hot man-on-man action, if two very different shifters who don’t sound like they’d get along at all but are fabulous together are your thing, and if you’re looking for a sweet love story with a strong wolf coming to the rescue of a beleaguered little bird shifter, then you will probably like this short story. I loved it from beginning to end.
