Book Blurb

If not for his family and his Christmas tree farm, David Rochester would be a recluse. And Erik Shriver wouldn’t know a quiet moment if it smacked him in the face. But now David’s farm has brought them together. When Erik’s flurry of bad jokes and frenetic energy sets David off kilter, his family notices and begins conspiring. They push David and a very willing Erik together again and again until David stops denying his attraction. But an almost-hermit and a soon-to-be-former club boy each bring baggage into a relationship. They’ll have to take things slowly to find the middle ground between David's taciturn silence and Eric's boundless chatter.

Book Review

With two men who have opposite intentions, this is quite a tension-filled not-quite-romance, until it is. David has absolutely no interest in Erik, or so he keeps telling himself to avoid getting his heart broken again. Erik is totally interested in David and does his best to figure out how to get closer. Both David and Erik are making assumptions about each other, and my guess is that it is only because of David’s family pushing him toward opening up that leads to a first reluctant date – just because it is Erik’s birthday and David sort of feels sorry for him. Well, that and Erik’s persistence.

David works on his family’s tree farm and loves it. He likes plants much more than people, and while the reason only emerges slowly, it is clear that he really enjoys the solitude. Maybe a little too much – though he would never admit it. But after getting his heart broken by a cheater, David just cannot get himself to risk heartbreak again. And with him naturally shy to start with… let’s just say it’s not looking like he will find love anytime soon.

So it’s a good thing that his busybody family (all of whom are wonderfully quirky) gets involved in making sure David is “forced” to admit that he actually quite likes the persistently flirty biology teacher who works part-time at the farm. Erik hasn’t had an easy time and not everything is as it seems, so once the floodgates open, both men have a lot of catching up to do.

If you prefer hard-earned romances, if you think that “resisting love” is useless when love is just meant to be, and if you’re looking for an entertaining read with lots of flirty and not-so-flirty banter, then you will probably like this Christmas-y novella.
