Book Blurb

On a virtual reality holiday, your subconscious dictates what happens, not you. Make sure you know your inner self well before you take your trip.

In the year 2036, humans are expected to work relentlessly like their colleagues—computers programmed with artificial intelligence. Truman is treated to a rare weekend off work to go on holiday. When he sees a virtual reality holiday to first century Kos, he books it. Truman is overwhelmed by the sites, the tales of The Gods, the Roman customs, and a warrior called Titus. The holiday is perfect until the Romans receive an unwelcomed Turkish surprise. Determined to outsmart the Turks, Truman draws on his knowledge of the twenty-first century to give them the battle of a lifetime and one they’ll never forget.

Book Review

The idea of a virtual reality holiday to anywhere you want is pretty cool, and this futuristic story makes that concept a reality for one stressed-out man in need of some R&R. And while this story lacks credibility when the main character “brings back” a physical object from the virtual past he traveled to, it is an entertaining look at the people who might have populated our past.

Truman is one of the people who still have a job in 2023 and, unlike the computers using artificial intelligence to do their jobs, he needs a vacation. He ends up traveling to a virtual version of Ancient Rome, spends his time with super fit athletes, and ends up helping the people on the island Kos fight off an army of invaders. It is all good fun until he has to return to his reality all too soon.

If you like timetravel adventures for their entertainment value rather than the underlying logic, if you want to see how a modern-day man deals with a historical battle, and if you’re looking for a brief read that contains some very hot action, then you might like this short story.
