Kithric, an aging dragon tamer, leads a solitary life atop his mountain, until the day he accidentally traps a dragon that is more than he seems. Expecting to be killed for capturing a dragon shifter, Kithric instead finds himself spared and left to deal with his continued solitude.

He finds he can’t be rid of Ylfrin the dragon shifter that easily, though, and as Ylfrin continues to return, bit by bit Kithric begins to fall for him and starts to value using what life he has left to the fullest. But before he and Ylfrin can explore their feelings, they must first confront dangers and corrupt forces encroaching from outside Kithric’s Mountain.

Book Review

In a world where both dragons and dragon shifters exist, mistaking one for the other can be a problem. This is the story of an aging dragon tamer who falls for a dragon shifter despite his best efforts not to. The dragon shifter isn’t much in favor of a liaison either, for very surprising reasons, but it seems as if neither man is in control of what happens to him. The one thing both men agree on is that they are too old for an affair – not that it matters. Fate has other ideas and, once more, proves that it is “never too late” for love.

Kithric is a dragon tamer. He prefers to tame his dragons so they return and supply him with items he can sell to make a living, rather than killing them. He is getting older though, and doesn’t expect to be able to do his job much longer. He is also lonely, having lost the man he used to work with years ago. But then everything changes. He captures a dragon shifter by mistake, and figures the man will kill him for it. Nothing could be further from the truth, although they have fun pretending that is what’s going to happen for a while. Well, fun may not be the right word, not at first, but there is definitely something between them and I was relieved to see that both of them wanted to stick around to find out exactly what that might be.

If you like dragons and dragon shifters, if you want to find out more about two men who used to think of each other as enemies before realizing there might be better ways of spending their days than fighting each other, and if you’re looking for a mystery-filled read about a truly fascinating world, then you will probably like this short story as much as I did.
