When the heart is involved, bravery can have more power than the strongest magic.

When James Sparks, the alpha of the local werewolf pack, declares Kevin Santhill as his mate, the free-wheeling wizard panics. He didn't plan on settling down—not now, not ever. It doesn’t matter that James is the sexiest thing he’d ever seen or that his heart flips whenever he sees the sexy wolf shifter, he plans to stick by his guns and stay independent.

However, when his best friend Jaynell goes missing, he has to partner with James to help find his friend. And if Kevin can't find the confidence to dredge up his magic and control his avatar, Jay could be lost forever.

Book Review

Book two of 'A Wizard's Touch' was just as much fun to read as the first volume, and added some wonderful detail to the world and the characters encountered in the initial installment. While the focus in this story is on Kevin and his mate James, Jaynell and Thomas from book one are back, as are the triplets and, of course, the gnomes. This book is action-packed, full of magic and possessive werewolves, and has an interesting villain.

Kevin is the son of an elf and a wizard and, as such, has some very special magic of his own. None of which was ever recognized by his father, so Kevin ends up not believing in himself. He also doesn’t want to mate with James, since his idea of commitment is the stronger partner holding the weaker one prisoner (something he learned watching his parents). His lack of self-confidence makes his mate growl and the other wizards wonder, since they don’t see him as weak at all. Luckily, Kevin has ample opportunity to prove to himself how strong he really is as he turns into the leader of the search for Jay. Oh, and when he finally manages to call his avatar? Too cute!

James may be the alpha, but on many occasions he doesn’t feel very much in control. He may have gotten used to his strong brother, Thomas, being rather more independent than a normal pack member, but he can live with that. His mate not being ready to fall into his arms is more of a problem. Intellectually he can understand, but his wolf has a different point of view. I liked that he was in control of his shifter urges and gave Kevin the time he needed to figure things out. In the end, it made them a much stronger couple.

With love soon popping out of the woodwork, a totally unexpected villain, fast-paced action once the guys pool their resources (and that includes the gnomes), and some more wonderful "magical" details, this is another fun story that had me entertained from beginning to end. If you like stories about wizards who are less than self-confident but grow before your eyes, if you enjoy reading about men who need to figure out how not to smother their mates in possessive jealousy, and if you're looking for a light, entertaining read, then you will probably like this novella.
