Sometimes you have to love yourself before you can learn to let somebody else love you.

Out of all the breeds in the shifter world, Hyenas are one of the most hated—even if they are only half-breeds like Kallen. So when Kallen joins up with the feline coalition, his welcome is less than warm. But at least he has his brother and a small group of friends to count on. Even though the rest of the felines and Hawks make it no secret that they hate him.

Tiger shifter Drake has been enamored with the Hyena ever since he saw him working as a medic in the infirmary. But so far, all his attempts to get closer to Kallen have fallen short. The Hyena seems skittish and afraid to trust anyone. Drake is determined not to let Kallen push him away.

Then old friends turn out to be new enemies of Kallen, and he’s in more danger than ever. Will he be able to trust Drake to protect him? Or will his fears be his own undoing?

Book Review

A hyena isn't a shifter that is often portrayed in books. Let's face it, they don't have a good reputation even in the animal kingdom, so why would anyone want to romanticize them? However, since it's been determined, over and over again, that I'm crazy about shifters, you can bet I was interested in reading Kallen's story. He'd intrigued me in the prior installment and I felt he really deserved happiness and love.

Drake is a tiger and after throwing himself in front of Kallen and protecting him, it's obvious to everyone but Kallen that Drake is interested. How can Drake get Kallen to understand that he wants to spend time with the hyena, get to know him? When Kallen decides that the best way he can atone for his past betrayal of the coalition, even though Mitchell claims that debt has long been paid, is to train to be a field medic…well, let's just say Drake isn't very happy that Kallen is putting himself in danger. The hyena clans, which ally with the Ravens, will view Kallen fighting for the coalition as treason and will go after him even harder. Unfortunately for Kallen, the ones who betray and deceive him are members of his former pack of homeless shifters. The pack that Kallen led and protected.

This was so exciting and I really enjoyed it. Kallen and Drake get their happy ever after but not without some work on both of their parts. And the author left me on a cliffhanger with my very favorite psycho, Shane. Now I'm looking forward to future installments even more.
