Steven is used to working from home and setting his own schedule, so fulfilling his civic duty by participating in jury duty is getting on his last nerve. But on the morning the trial is set to begin, Steven catches the eye of an adorable bailiff named Mike. A chance meeting at lunch gets the two men talking, and they realize they have more in common than they thought. Their half hour of bonding is interrupted, however, by an unspeakable act. Mike will prove to his fellow officers that being gay doesn't make him any less of a man, and Steven will learn that there are far worse things to endure than jury duty.

 

Book Review

I've yet to be blessed with serving on a jury but I'm sure my time will come. For Steven it's just a giant pain in the butt as it takes him away from his job, and basically inconveniences him. He doesn't have a problem making his surly mood known to his fellow jurors, but he is entranced by Mike, the bailiff. Even more so when they grab lunch and Mike tells him he isn't out because being a gay cop isn't easy.

When they're returning to the courtroom after lunch, all hell breaks loose, as an irate man is shooting up the front entrance of the courthouse. Mike steps in to help with the problem and ends up almost losing his life. It might make him see that hiding won't make any difference if you're dead. But, for both Steven and Mike, I think meeting each other was the best thing to happen to them that day.

This is a very short story that helped to remind me of what is really important in the world. It is a sweet and very loving story that I enjoyed.
