Book Blurb

Olivia is a photographer working at Rory and Lou's art gallery. While taking pictures at the party Clay and Quint throw to celebrate the adoption of their son, she captures what seems to be a murder in the building behind them.

Lou and Quint take it upon themselves to investigate--unofficially at first--with the help of Rory and Gideon Monahan. When they find out the presumed victim is alive and denying anything happened, they dig deeper. Things heat up as Rory goes undercover to try to learn the truth while the others delve into the backgrounds of the people involved and Olivia finds more photos relevant to the case.

Now all they have to do is find out what the photos really show, and if what looked like a murder may be even more than it seems.

Book Review

Different from the previous four books in this series, this fifth installment (which, to my regret, looks to be the last) involves all four couples from the previous books in one joint operation. You need to read the other four before this one, or else you’ll miss the context to all the wonderful interactions between the men. Not to mention the four intriguing mysteries that go with them. As for this book? I loved seeing all four couples again, this time working together with a photographer who has worked at Rory and Lou’s art gallery. She is the one who discovers a potential murder caught in the background of one of her pictures. Everyone contributes to the solution, and that is very necessary! The author kept everyone guessing for the longest time – and the solution is as ingenious as it is insidious.

With what appears to be a murder on their hands, cops Quint and Lou are the logical guys to start the investigation. But without any real evidence and no “official” reason to get the police involved, they need Rory’ help. He is Lou’s partner, so he is happy to help, but even though he now runs a gallery of his own, he also has a background in undercover work. So he is the logical choice for field work, while his former boss Gideon (who retrieves stolen art and discovers forgeries) helps behind the scenes. Even Zack, an ER doctor married to one of the artists who works for Clay’s gallery, ends up playing a role in figuring out if there was a murder at all, and if so, who did it. And if not – what the heck is going on?

This novella is an intriguing mystery that gets solved when four loving couples work together. It was wonderful to see all of them happily settled in their relationships. And the mystery was as entertaining, head-scratchingly complicated, and suspenseful as any of the other four. If this is the finale of the series – it was a good one. Thank you, Edward!

If you like complicated mysteries that take a while to figure out and solve, if you can’t get enough of the guys starring in the ‘Art Crimes’ series, and if you’re looking for a read that is as entertaining as it is suspenseful, then you will probably like this novella.
