Book Blurb

Can a wealthy but bored businessman rescue a tortured musician from his self-imposed purgatory with a scorching kinky romance?

When Rene Conette attends an intimate performance at a local bar, the guitarist moves him enough that he attempts to go backstage but is stymied by the man’s bodyguard. Putting it down as not meant to be, he goes on with his life only to run into the man again, late at night at a bookstore.

Gavin Turner used to be a famous musician until an obsessed fan kidnapped and tortured him. Then it came out that he was into the BDSM lifestyle, and the court of public opinion ravaged him. He lost his Master and his self-confidence. Now he hides behind his ink and his bodyguards, who make sure he doesn’t come into contact with anyone or anything he doesn’t want to. Though it’s been years since he satisfied his needs, he doesn’t think he can trust again.

If Rene can work his way past Gavin’s defenses, they might find they complement each other perfectly.

Book Review

A wealthy businessman with lots of free time and a tortured musician who is hiding from the world may not sound like they’d have a lot in common, but this story proves they both have hidden depths that make them fit extremely well. It is a tale of slowly building trust, change and growth, but most of all it is about renewed hope. Both main characters are complex and have hidden depths, and discovering their backstories was a huge part of my enjoyment. Yes, they have tons of chemistry and are very hot together as they explore a D/s relationship, but what I found most interesting was the emotions behind the kink, so to speak.

Gavin is a musician who has suffered horribly when he was kidnapped and tortured by a misguided fan. Five years later, Gavin is still only just beginning to reenter the world, but he has surrounded himself with emotional and physical walls that are almost impenetrable. His bodyguards are twins and extremely protective of him, and so is his brother who owns a bookstore – one of the few places Gavin frequents on a regular basis. He is desperate to submit, but his kidnapping experience makes this a real challenge for him. I felt for Gavin and seeing him grow almost from the moment he meets Rene was a delight.

Rene is fascinated by Gavin the first time he sees him perform at a small café and totally incognito, and he does not let the initial rejection stop him from pursuing his interest. He is a very patient Dom and I liked the way he doesn't openly push. He makes it clear what he would like but he leaves the first steps up to Gavin. The slow build of trust is very well done, and with both men so likable I was totally invested in their success as a couple.

Much of my interest came from the interactions between Gavin and Rene, but also from Gavin's continuing need to perform live music. With someone as shy as he is and with what he has been through, that is as much a challenge as him learning to give up control in any situation! The secondary characters, including the twin bodyguards and Gavin’s brother were wonderful supporters and I’d love to read more about them!

If you like men with hidden depths that are slowly revealed as they get to know each other, if you think that sometimes a new relationship is exactly what is needed to get over old emotional scars, and if you’re looking for little angst and lots of growth and recovery as well as lots of kinky loving, then you will probably like this novel as much as I do. The slow build of trust and emotions had me engaged and Gavin’s growth made me smile.
