When undercover work requires working under the covers, danger is an uninvited bedfellow… Erin McKenzie, a newly promoted homicide detective, lands the assignment of her career when she is chosen to investigate Elizabeth Adams, the number one suspect in a slew of serial murders. Adams, elusive and devastatingly beautiful, is not only an accomplished seductress but also a lesbian. Erin, straight and married, needs a crash course in more than just undercover detecting. With Patricia Henderson, a fellow homicide cop and Adams' former lover as a mentor, Erin embarks on the journey of her life…with love and danger hot on her heels.

Book Review

This was a Jim-dandy first book of a series of currently only two books and the initial publication with Bold Strokes Books, I believe, for Ronica Black. The plot was brilliant, the two main gals were fantastic, and since this was also a police procedural I was in book heaven. It takes place in desert-like conditions in Arizona…fantastic. My, my, serial killers not only fire up my interest, but put homicide detectives on full alert. One of the main gals is the prime suspect and the newest rookie on the homicide squad is the second gal, scheduled to go seduce this prime suspect wearing a wire in an undercover role to get the goods. This was a bit far out, but wonderful…especially since it works from the police standpoint. I have a bunch more Ronica Black books to read and if they are anything like this opening novel from 2005, I am in for an amazing treat. ‘In Too Deep’ is a thumbs-up!

Erin McKenzie, sometimes called Mac, has been transferred from Narcotics to Homicide because she was a superior undercover agent and Homicide needed someone really good. The opening scenes where Erin is working her undercover wiles are superior and splendid. She plays Adams perfectly and gets herself invited to not only the VIP room, but also Liz’s lair. Erin is magnificent and continued to be throughout the book. Erin and Liz will have some really hot encounters and Erin is introduced big-time to the world of woman on woman sexual ecstasy.

Elizabeth Adams, Liz, has abundant hidden talents, history, and high level seduction skills. So, when Erin wraps her around her little finger during their first encounter, Liz is a tad taken aback. However, she moves easily into phase two. Liz is attracted to Erin in ways she didn’t think possible. That is an astounding story line along with the police investigation and I was soaring on both levels just as the characters were.

I have the enjoyable pleasure to read several of Ronica Black’s books as I delve into her earlier works published by Bold Strokes Books. As I mentioned before, this book came out in September of 2005. It doesn’t read as if it is a book that is eight years old from the police procedural point of view and the hot and sexy action is rather timeless. This is a glorious story that was exciting and sultry. I already like Ronica from my reading of ‘Wild Abandon’, which was her third publication with Bold Strokes Books. However, my focus today is with ‘In Too Deep’ and I definitely recommend this book!
