When Eli’s uncle Jasper mentions needing a cornerman for former World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Jessie “The Demon” Dalton, Eli jumps at the chance. Having had his heart broken by the man five years earlier, Eli is not only determined to get some answers, but he has no intention of letting Jessie push him out of his life a second time around. However, when he comes to face to face with Jessie, it becomes very clear to Eli how much Jessie needs him in his corner, and in his life. All he has to do is convince Jessie of that.

Book Review

Centered around the boxing scene of the 1920s, this is a sweet story about two guys finding their way back to each other after five long years apart. Both Jessie and Eli come across as such decent people, and their love for one another shines through their every interaction, so that I couldn’t help but root for them in their quest for happiness.

Jessie (The Demon) Dalton isn’t the confident boxing champion he once was. Five years earlier, he lost the three things that mattered to him above all else—his heavyweight title, his reputation, and Eli. Now, Eli has come back into his life as his new cornerman, and Jessie is both wary and overjoyed. Eli is thirteen years younger than him, and deserves better than a washed-up has been. Still, however much he tells himself it’s wrong, Jessie can’t deny how his heart beats faster whenever Eli is near.

Eli has never gotten over Jessie shutting him out of his life, and as soon as they are reunited, all the love and heartbreak come flooding back. He needs to understand why Jessie cut him off all those years ago, but it soon becomes apparent that Jessie needs his help just as much. As Eli assists Jessie in reassembling his self-esteem, he is determined to overcome Jessie’s reservations and prove to him that they are meant to be together.

If you’re looking for a quick read, and enjoy heart-warming romances that leave you with a smile on your face, I would highly recommend this story.
