Love at first sight can work for dogs as well as humans.

When Aaron finds Mavis, an emaciated and timid Boston terrier, at a pet adoption fair, his heart goes out to her -- irrevocably.

When Christian, who is manning the adoption fair for the Humane Society that fateful autumn Saturday, finds Aaron, his heart goes out to him -- irrevocably.

I Heart Boston Terriers is all about embracing love, whether it's for someone who walks on four legs or someone who walks on two. The Boston terrier Mavis's journey back to wholeness and finding her forever home runs parallel to the story of two men finding each other at that perfect moment -- a moment that defies logic, propriety, and common sense.

But then when do the dictates of love follow a rational course?

Come along for a journey about a man and his dog and see how that journey teaches him the truth about love and making a caring connection that just might last a lifetime.

Book Review

Statistics show that sharing our lives with animal companions improves its quality and our longevity; animal caregivers live longer, happier lives. Our beloved companions’ loyalty and adoration go a long way toward healing our wounded spirits. In 'I Heart Boston Terriers' by Rick Reed, Aaron needs this kind of healing. When he adopts Mavis, he also meets Christian, her animal shelter caregiver; together they help Aaron take his first steps toward healing his broken heart.

Aaron is the type of person who gives his heart first and considers the ramifications later. Previously, this approach has had disastrous results, so when Mavis is reluctant to accept him, he has to take a step backward and learn to earn her confidence. There is nothing more heartening than caring for an animal, gaining their trust, and slowly watching them bloom. As Aaron and Mavis bond, it becomes more difficult for Aaron to imagine life without her. When his sister orders him to return Mavis, he reaches out to Christian for help since his wisdom about animals makes caring for Mavis seem simple.

I loved Christian. His reactions are unpredictable and outrageous, but he's also very sincere. His straightforward acknowledgment of his attraction to Aaron is almost overwhelming. Aaron's concern for Mavis doesn't quell this enthusiasm; it only makes Christian more determined to get close to him. It soon becomes clear that the three of them, Christian, Aaron, and Mavis, make a good trio.

'I Heart Boston Terriers' could only have been written by someone who loves animals and it's wonderfully obvious that Rick Reed does. The tone of the story encompasses a compassion and understanding which only comes with experience—directly from one's heart. It's an endearing love story which made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside and happy to know that someone else appreciates animals as much as I do.

If you want to read a story that will leave your heart feeling light long after you finish it, then you won't want to pass up this one. From one animal lover to another thank you, Rick, for a lovely reading experience.
