Book Blurb

Bas Korbas has more friends than he can count. The lead singer of Hecate's Hounds has a voice that melts men and women alike. He never goes home alone, and rarely has a moment to himself when away from his bed. Despite all of the attention and the success of his band, Bas feels alone, stuck on the outside, looking in, waiting for someone to come and make him whole.

Reed Parker likes his quiet, secluded life in his mountain home tucked away on the outskirts of town. He's not looking for love, just peace. When Bas "The Hound" Korbas storms into his life, and ignores the brush offs and explosions that have, without fail, driven other men away, Reed must decide if he should build his walls higher, or let Bas pull them down.

Publisher's Note: This book contains explicit sexual situations, graphic language, and material that some readers may find objectionable: male/male sexual practices, flashback to childhood abuse.

Book Review

Bas Korbas, of ‘Hounded for Love' by Pia Velino, is a typical rock star who relishes in the attention he receives both on and off stage. Lately it's not enough; he's tired of all the meaningless relationships and false smiles. Fame is great for a while, but too much of anything is, well, too much. Having to be on all the time becomes exhausting. Many people in the public spotlight yearn to be normal, at least some of the time.

I liked Bas from the start especially since he was a dog lover. His dog, Daisy, is adorable and acts as a bridge between Bas and Reed. I thought Bas was sexy and unusually nice for a rock musician. He switched gears a little too fast for me when he went from being promiscuous to wanting to be in a committed relationship, but I suppose it's possible. I thought it was very romantic the way he tried to win Reed over and put up with his idiosyncrasies. I had to wonder though, why he wanted Reed so much. High maintenance doesn't even begin to cover Reed's disposition. Bas knows that he and Reed are very different, but he wants to share his life with him. Bas has infinitely more patience than I would have had with Reed. I see what Reed saw in Bas, but I couldn't understand why Bas was so interested in Reed. But the heart wants what the heart wants and his wanted Reed.

Reed Parker has given up on ever having a loving relationship. After all, he reasons, who wants to deal with anxiety attacks and flashbacks? He finds it easier to retreat into himself and avoid all the angst associated with being close to someone. Experience has taught him that most people can't deal with the truth and knows he can't have a decent relationship without being honest. However, this is before he meets Bas who is a force to be reckoned with. They even try things that Reed likes such as forest train hiking which Bas turns out really enjoying. Unfortunately, Reed is just as nervous about things going well as he is of things going bad. His problem is that he doesn't believe it will last and the better it gets, the more it will hurt when Bas leaves. I didn't dislike Reed, but I had a difficult time understanding him, much less becoming emotionally involved. However, since I liked Bas and wanted him to be happy, I was rooting for them to be able to make it work.

‘Hounded by Love’ has a lot of interesting secondary characters who support Reed and Bas. I'd like to have known more about them. It would have been interesting to see how they were all tied together in Bas and Reed's life. As it is, the story ends happily and that's what's important. I'd recommend this story to anyone who likes rock stars, beagles, challenging relationships, angst, and suffering for love. Thanks, Pia, for introducing us to Bas and Reed.
