Lany: I just wanted to help my Mom out with the Children's Fall Festival. I had no idea I'd be dragged into a mess that would change my entire world. Learning that children in foster care were being abused, and determined to stop it, I jumped in feet first. I just had to stay alive long enough for Sal to rescue me.
Salvador: I loved Lany to the depths of my soul, but the messes he got into made me want to wrap my fingers around his pretty little neck. This last one might be the top of the list. When Lany is taken to stop me from investigating a child slavery ring, I have to step outside the boundaries of the law I work so hard to uphold, but it might be the only way to keep Lany alive.
I am so happy the author isn’t done writing about my favorite hot mess, Lany, and his husband, Salvador. Lany can get into more trouble than anyone I’ve ever seen and poor Salvador is lucky he hasn’t had a heart attack. Yet. Lany is the only person I know whose personal physician is on speed dial. *grins*
I wasn’t very far into my reading when I realized this story was going to revolve around kids who are abused in the foster care system. Oh, that whole concept makes my heart hurt. Children should never be made to feel pain or helplessness. I was right there with Lany thinking the men responsible needed a harsher punishment than jail. Once they found them, of course. It’s amazing how Lany manages to stumble onto these crimes and this one at a Children’s Fall Festival event. I wasn’t surprised when Lany got kidnapped. He gets that a lot. However, this time might just be the worst thing Lany has ever had to endure.
“My anniversary was coming up. Every year, Sal and I always seemed to fuck up celebrating our anniversary somehow. It looked as if this year was going to be pretty much the same as every other year.”
Another wonderful addition to the series that ended with Lany and Sal adding four more children to their household, breaking up a drug and child slavery ring, and Lany given the opportunity to be a stay-at-home dad. I don’t know whether this is the finale or not, but as always, the author ended this book with a bang.
