Book Review

This fifth book of the ‘Honor’ series adds nuance, subterfuge, and tension as the follow-up to book four which focused almost exclusively on the people and events in and around the September 11, 2001 disaster. The current story covering the time frame from September 13 through October 1, 2001 is a multilayered enchantment revolving around three couples. It primarily links three very different physical locations interweaving the highly stressful moments within political and military scenes. Almost always at the center of events is Blair, the daughter of the president of the United States. From my perspective, this is a feast for the minds and souls of the readers and I highly recommend it. Remarkably piquant!

Blair Allison Powell is outrageously amusing on occasion and coupling that with her hair-trigger temper that can rock both the people and the places within her proximity, it is a huge underestimation to say she is a handful to deal with thereby making her an extraordinary challenge to protect. She also has the heart and soul of an artist which additionally confounds her lover, friends, and security detail. The one-on- one scenes between Blair and Cam—whether they are locked in a super heated sexual tryst, addressing the sticky intricacies of first and foremost protecting Blair's life, or enveloping the reader inside the astoundingly difficult balance of personal and public events—always stay true to the intensities public and privates lives are facing in the wake of possibly the worst disaster that ever occurred within the borders of the United States. Blair continues to develop before my eyes as a larger than life triumph of the human spirit. Outstandingly passionate!

Cameron Roberts, Cam, is a rather complex intensely self-contained woman. The extraordinarily well planned and executed attempt on Blair's life in conjunction with the devastating assault that played out on 9/11 necessitates Cam be relieved from her position as Blair's chief of security. However, there is a directive from key centers of power that put Cam at the head of a very specialized task force directed to uncover, capture, and possibly eliminate the hidden power centers that coordinated and implemented the assaults carried out on this most recent infamous day. Cam is also unquestionably, completely, and openly in love with Blair. Since same-sex couples were not an acceptable form of union in the day, some discretion needs to be observed. However, I found it marvelously delicious that a prudent form of cover-up is heeded at a more or less minimal level. Flamboyantly savory!

The two additional couples referenced are Paula Stark, new chief of security for Blair Powell and Renée
Savard, an FBI operative currently working closely with the secret service forces guarding Blair. This pair made their first appearance in Honor Series 4 and their relationship continues to grow being delightfully intriguing. The new couples introduced within this volume include Dianne Bleeker, longtime close friend to Blair in addition to being Blair's art representative, and the CIA agent Valerie Lawrence, known to Cam previously as Claire. Apparently, Claire working as a highly paid DC call girl was actually functioning undercover for the CIA. Excuse me while I have to say the following, “Oh my god the plot thickens!” These two couples provided some astonishingly complementarily enhancing elements unquestionably really spicing things up. Flabbergasting and exquisite!

I am beginning to understand that each book in this collection may be thoroughly enjoyed on its own, but they absolutely soar when read in sequence. I definitely recommend this book and thoroughly appreciated the previous four installments. Excitingly masterful!
