Book Blurb

Vampire Truelock’s job for the last several hundred years has been protecting the President of Archer Industries, a family run company that has done very well for itself. The current patriarch, Desmond Archer, is getting ready to officially retire from the company that more or less runs itself now, and he sends True on a mission to protect his estranged grandson Lane.

Lane’s mother stopped speaking to her father Desmond when Lane was only a few years old and has told her son that his grandparents are all dead. He has no idea that he’s an heir to a fortune. When a handsome stranger steps in and saves him from bodily hard just when he needs it, he’s both grateful and a little suspicious. That suspicion only grows when bad things continue to happen to him, all seeming to stem from True’s arrival and claim that he’s been sent by Lane’s grandfather to protect him.

The fact that there’s insane chemistry between Lane and True doesn’t help either of them untangle where the danger’s coming from. Can they figure it out before Lane’s unknown enemies manage to do him permanent damage?

Book Review

A vampire as a bodyguard is a pretty cool idea. With all the strength and speed advantages, I imagine anyone hiring him could feel pretty safe. In this story, True has been in the same rich family’s services for a few hundred years, taking on each new generations as the old patriarch retired. The current situation is no different, except Desmond is putting him in charge of one of the grandsons’ safety, seeing as the mother broke off her relationship with him many years ago. Lane, said grandson, has no idea he has a living grandfather, having been told Desmond died, and knows nothing about his generous trust fund. What follows is a wonderfully humorous story as True introduces himself, saving Lane from a rather awkward situation, and Lane refuses to believe a word True says.

Lane is a realist and has a sensible head on his shoulders – most of the time. When he dabbles in BDSM and the Dom wants acts Lane is not interested in, the situation gets ugly, and Lane is saved only by True’s interference. Lane is understandably suspicious about a total stranger telling him things that can’t be true – Lane KNOWS his grandfather is dead, his mother told him! – and when bad events continue to happen, that suspicion doesn’t exactly go away. On the other hand, True keeps saving him…

True is an excellent bodyguard who takes his job seriously. He is also very good at it, and he is loyal toward his employer. So even though Lane refuses to accept his services, True persists. There is a strong attraction between them that True decides to ignore – until he realizes it may be a true mate bond that is forming between them. It makes getting Lane to safety even more important; assassins sent to kill Lane be damned.

If you like your vampires with a touch of humor and don’t mind a few assassination attempts, if two men who have never met before succumbing to the mate bond are your thing, and if you’re looking for a read that is very entertaining, sometimes funny, and contains lots of hot action between the sheets (and elsewhere), then you will probably like this novella.
