Book Blurb

Christmas is the worst time of the year to find yourself alone. Chris Moss, owner of a tree farm, knows this down to his bones as he makes his way through his first holiday season after losing his wife to cancer. When Wade Hart, an annual customer at the farm, visits, they find common ground: Wade lost his own longtime lover to a parting of ways and is lonely too. The constant, gentle companionship provides fertile soil for an attraction neither expects, but nurturing a new relationship is a tough proposition. With the encouragement of family and friends, Chris and Wade may yet find that a second love later in life can be just as fulfilling as the first.

A story from the Dreamspinner Press 2013 Advent Calendar package "Heartwarming".

Book Review

If you are fortunate enough to have a loving, nurturing relationship, you are truly blessed. There's nothing like having a happy home, one where you feel loved and secure. Having someone with whom to share the burden of life, in the happy times as well as the sad, ensures that you will never be lonely, or scared, or overwhelmed. Chris Moss, of 'Heart of the Pines' by John Keys, had such a life, until his beloved wife died leaving him to struggle on alone. Chris is doing the best he can to keep up with the tree farm which was their dream, but his heart just isn't in it. He's letting a lot of things go undone. Right about now, he's wondering if it is worth the effort, when one of his customers, Wade Hart, comes in at just the right place at the right time, to offer hope and an open door, for them, to the possibility of loving again.

Whether out of sympathy or mutual mourning, since Wade's partner left him recently as well, the two men begin to fit together in a comfortable way, filling in some of the holes in each other's hearts. With respect, sincerity, and honesty, not just out of convenience, they begin a nurturing process which helps them start to heal. In the process, a spark is lit between them revealing possibilities which neither one had previously considered. When Chris comes out to Wade, he's elated because he had previously assumed that Chris was straight. As their relationship deepens, they work through their feelings of disloyalty, acknowledging that their love is different, but equally as strong as they had with their previous partners.

This a pleasant love story about second chances and never giving up. Chris and Wade are great guys, both deeply hurt by life, yet still having a lot of love to share. They come together in the best possible way, nurturing each other and embracing the chance they have been given. I recommend this slightly angsty, but wonderfully romantic story to all of you romantics out there who appreciate the fact that love can heal any heart that's open to the possibility. Thanks, Jon, for this endearing holiday story.
