Deputy Eddie Fletcher never dreamed when he was sent out on a call that he would be meet the man of his dreams, but that was exactly what Cary was. He was smart and sexy and in trouble, but before Eddie can even think of pursuing the man, he has to keep him alive. Cary's life is a nightmare, and he needs more help than Eddie can give him. Luckily, Eddie knows a few good people to call.

Book Review

Cade Creek has had its share of drama, suspenseful reunions, and growing families already, but it is always good to return for another episode in this colorful little town. This time Eddie, a lonely deputy, runs into a traumatized kid who leads him to an injured man in more trouble than he can handle. Eddie is a good guy so he does everything to help out Cary, but it takes practically the whole town to solve the problem. Seeing characters from past books come together is always wonderful, no matter how perilous the situation, and this time is no exception.

Cary is on the run – and for good reason. He is trying to escape a killer, protect his younger brother who is only five, and find his long-lost twin brother all at the same time. But the guy he is trying to run from has found him and Cary needs help. Only he has no idea whom to trust – until he meets the gorgeous deputy who helps to get him out of the wrecked car he is stuck in.

Eddie is one of the few single gay men left in Cade Creek (or so it seems), and he dreams of having what most of his friends have found: a loving partner and, ideally, some kids to call his own. He did not expect to find his future partner in a ditch. Stuck in a wrecked car, but who is he to judge? Eddie is a man of honor, an officer of the law, and he will protect friends and strangers alike.

Thrown into a situation were Cary and Eddie need to defend themselves and little Casey against the attacks of a madman, trust has to develop quickly if they want to stand a chance. Cary has been on his own for so long that he has a hard time dropping his walls, but Eddie’s selfless actions help. Casey hones in on Eddie as “the man with the badge” because he has been taught to trust cops and is not yet old enough to understand what Cary knows: not all of them are “good guys”. Except, of course, in Cade Creek!

If you want to find out what the wonderful people of Cade Creek are up to, if you like strangers bonding under pressure only to find out they are meant for each other, and if you’re looking for a suspenseful read filled with sweet moments and growing emotions, then you will probably like this novella. I think it’s another great addition to the series!
