The year is 2327. Earth, once strong, is now trying to recover from the devastation of the Great War. During the battle, millions of lives were lost and cities were destroyed. Needing to rebuild, the government turns to other planets. One day, a starship arrives from the planet of Glecerus. The aliens trade technology and medicine for willing humans to become mates to their people.

Georgie Larson grew up in an orphanage on Earth, hoping and praying for a family. He volunteers to go to Glecerus looking for a mate among the alien race. But Georgie’s dreams are crushed when he learns that none of the Glecerian males bid on him during the auction.

Ambassador Rett T'Rul and his brother Lund are both interested in becoming Georgie’s mate. They fight dirty to claim the human, but soon realize that they aren’t only hurting each other, they’re hurting Georgie as well. In the end, the choice is given to Georgie. Which male will he choose? Rett, the Ambassador to Sweshan, or Lund, the owner of a pleasure club?

Book Review

As much as may have changed between our world today and that of the ‘Alien Lovers’ series, set in 2327, there are also quite a few similarities. One of them is the fact that sometimes when you’re given a choice, in truth, there is no real choice at all. Georgie faces this situation when two Glecerians start to fight over him and he is supposed to decide whom he wants to stay with. I was curious about Georgie’s fate ever since he appeared in the first book of the series, and as it turns out, his fate is even tougher than I suspected. This made for an excellent story, so I am not complaining in the least!

All Georgie wants is a home, a mate, and a family – ever since he ended up in an orphanage on Earth. All three of his goals seem to be within reach when he joins a group of humans to be auctioned off on Glecerus, and he can hardly wait. But his hopes are crushed when nobody wants him at the auction, and he is told he will be returned to the singles dormitory before being shipped off to a different planet. Things look up when Georgie begins to talk to the bartender, Lund, while trying to drown his sorrows. Lund is very interested in Georgie and they get mated minutes later. Just after the consummation of their arrangement Georgie begins to relax, and that is when all hell breaks loose.

Rett is a Gleceran ambassador with special privileges, and he is after Georgie. Lund is his brother, and he has been interested in Georgie for a long time. The brothers are not on speaking terms, however, and that causes the mess that flows. Well, that and the fact that Lund knowingly tries to steal Georgie away from Rett. Lund believes he would be the better mate since Rett is always away from Glecerus and has a dangerous job. Rett does not see things the same way – he is even beginning to consider settling down once he has met Georgie in person.

With the brothers not talking to each other and Georgie unaware of the entire situation, misunderstandings abound and the mess gets worse by the page. Georgie soon begins to like Rett as well, despite the de facto abduction, but he can’t forget Lund. Neither of the aliens has been honest with him, and both are impossibly attractive. Georgie has got his task cut out for him.

If you like aliens with a personal agenda in your science fiction, if you are intrigued by the idea of a man who only wants a mate and a family to suddenly find himself with a choice of two aliens vying for his attention, and if you’re looking for a read that is entertaining, full of surprises, occasionally heartbreaking, and very hot, then you will probably like this novella.
