Connor Masterson has finally managed to take some time off and go to Earth Con. For three days and nights, he's going to get his geek on without worrying about work or the latest edition of his science fiction manga. He never expected to find two men who embody all his dreams and fantasies there and certainly not right after signing in.

Neither Valvik nor Zaraheed are looking forward to their current assignment: go to the Earth Con located in Austin, Texas and track down any and all rumors on the Ark scrolls, an ancient collection needed for the betterment of their dying people. Neither warrior expects to be drawn to a human, especially the same one.

The two men are determined to stay as low key as possible while searching for the scrolls, but that might be hard to do when an intergalactic killer wants the scrolls for himself.

Book Review

Space adventures? Check. Two hot aliens with a secret mission to find some mysterious artifact on Earth? Check. A slightly geeky guy who does not expect the impressive warriors (who he thinks are men dressed up in costumes for Earth Con, by the way) to give him the time of day? Check. Put these ingredients together, add a good dose of humor and, oh yes, a truly evil bad guy, shake well, and voilà, one portion of Galactic treasure ready to serve for your delight. It is certainly a recipe that worked well for me: very entertaining, more than a little hot, and overall a great story to read when you want to just sit back and relax for a while.

Aliens may not be everyone’s thing, but for Connor Masterson they are nothing new—in the mangas he writes. When he runs into not one, but two of them at Earth Con, an event he has been looking forward to for months, he thinks they just have particularly good costumes. When they turn out to be interested in him and want to spend time with him (and not just in the bedroom), he is flattered but still thinks it’s temporary. Boy has he got a lot to learn!

Valik and Zaraheed are on a desperate mission to find the scrolls that might save their entire species. After already leaving behind one planet, destroyed due to their own stupidity they are now struggling to survive on their new home. They don’t think what they’re looking for could possibly be on Earth, but when their general orders them to do, what are they supposed to do? Then they find Connor, whom they both cannot resist and before they know it they’re not only bonded to him, but have the biggest space pirate after them and the scrolls as well, can’t stop the bastard from kidnapping Connor, and have to face several obstacles before he can put things right again.

I think this is space opera in the best sense of the word. There are a few hints at a deeper mythology and some interesting concepts, but they get no more than a mention in passing. So this story should probably not be taken too seriously by hardcore science-fiction fans, but a tale you can enjoy if you’re looking for some adventurous fun with a serving of three hot men on the side. If you like the sound of that, and if you’re looking to have a fun time, then you will probably like this novella.
