Mackenzie (Mack) Blanchard has been in a funk since his high school sweetheart ditched him. Sebastian has been looking forward to spending time with his friends at his cabin in the mountains but Mother Nature decides to intervene and ruin all his well-laid plans of snow skiing, drinking, and debauchery. While the rest of the group gets stranded in different parts of the country, Rory Blanchard’s little brother manages to beat the airport shutdown and lands in Colorado just as the snow storm hits.

The last thing Sebastian wants is to be stranded in a snowstorm with the only straight guy in their group of snow skiers. Unfortunately, one doesn’t always get what they want. Things turn even worse when Mackenzie manages to get himself stranded on the side of the road in ridiculously freezing temperatures. Sebastian doesn’t mind saving the day, but finds himself in serious trouble when he realizes he’s immediately smitten.

Mackenzie and Sebastian grapple in the cabin – Sebastian trying to determine if he’s imagining the hot looks Mackenzie is sending his way and Mackenzie trying to understand the messages his traitorous body is sending to his heart.

Book Review

It isn’t always easy to figure out what you want in life – or in a partner. In this story, Mack thinks he knows exactly what he wants, but then his girlfriend (whom he met in first grade) dumps him and decides to get married on Valentine’s Day, less than seven months later. Mack is devastated, depressed, and keeps wondering what’s wrong with him. It isn’t until he gets stranded in the snow and rescued by Sebastian, one of the men his brother invited to a ski weekend, that Mack begins to get a clue – one he fights with everything in him. But Sebastian won't accept the denial – especially since he is attracted to Mack from the first time he sees him half-frozen in the snow.

Mack and Sebastian have a lot in common: they are alpha men, strong-willed, even stubborn, and they are both looking for a serious relationship. Sebastian’s priority is to save Mack from hypothermia – and sharing body heat just happens to be a great way of achieving that. Mack is hesitant at first, but he is honest enough to admit that his body’s signals are very clear about the direction he wants to go in. The wrangling back and forth is part painful, part entertaining, and the final decision comes rather quickly, but it all contributed to making this a fun short story.

If you like watching men who think they are straight come to terms with the fact that they may be gay, if two stubborn alpha males getting physical is your thing, and if you’re looking for a short, entertaining read, then you might like this short story.
