Book Review

The sixth episode of ‘French Kissing’ ends Season One with a truly startling conclusion. I thought it was possible that the cluster of pairs from the first season might not find their way into the second season, but at this point I am not sure at all. The mind-boggling cliffhanger pretty much left me speechless, but luckily I know how to type. I most certainly and wholeheartedly recommend this final segment and the entire Season One collection of six episodes. Magnificent!

Steph and Dominique have been an incredibly entertaining pair, but rarely center stage material. They more than provide and sustain the main focal point in this final episode. As an adept and good friend, Steph coaches and guards Claire's back during a precarious scenario where Claire is hopefully trying to meet her next love. Steph also learns later on she is being considered for some larger responsibilities and opportunities at Barbier & Cyr, the public relations firm for which she works. Dominique, although not in competition with Steph, is assuredly rarely outclassed. She publicly goes against her party's main stream, placing the spotlight on her in addition to being the daughter of Xavier Laroche, key person behind the right wing. The stage is set for that extraordinary ending!

Juliette and Nadia clearly appear to be doing a fairly good job at mending fences. When they both attend a birthday dinner for Nadia at her parents’, Nadia's mother asks pointedly if everything is okay between her and Juliette. Nadia responds with a tentative yes for all the reasons one would not wish to jinx the healing their relationship is undergoing. Although Juliette briefly feels she doesn't wish to plan the second birthday gathering for just their closest friends, when Nadia informs her that the infamous Dr. Marie Dievert whom Nadia slept with once on the sly, is being brought back to St. Vincent for another consult. However, Juliette rises above that painful remembrance and plans a very special gift for Nadia. This gift and its presentation could easily have been the highlight and a wonderfully surprising denouement, but actually is rather overwhelmed by the cliffhanger ending that culminates Season One. Beautiful!

All the highlighted characters throughout the twenty-two segments in this final episode have really made their mark on my heart. I am looking forward to Season Two and how the cliffhanger will be managed or who will fall under the wrecking ball. The entire Season One has been “one helluva ride” as I tentatively predicted after reading the first episode. Out of this world!
