Claire and Juliette have been best friends for twenty years. Together they own a successful PR agency in Paris, but their journey to success has come at a price. Juliette and her partner Nadia have drifted apart after ten years together while Claire hasn’t been on a real date for as long as she can remember. Meanwhile, their happily single employee Steph is getting a bit too close to a new, high-profile client.
Warning: This title contains sensual language, ladies making love and cliffhangers.
This is the first of six episodes of season one in the FRENCH KISSING serial. The boxed set containing all episodes is now available here.
This opening episode of ‘French Kissing’ simply crackles with high powered women, super sexual innuendos, and action in the bedroom and the boardroom. The core group are primarily owners and employees of a public relations firm called Barbier & Cyr that has been in existence for fourteen years and is located in Paris, France. One of the owners of the firm is in a long-term relationship with a woman working at a major hospital who was recently promoted to administrator and is suddenly working almost as many hours as her partner. There are twenty-four segments in Episode One, each from one of the key character's perspective. Once I got the swing of how the story was unfolding, I liked this technique a good deal. There will be six separate episodes in Season One and from what I ascertained, Season Two is due out January of 2015. I feel this is going to be one helluva ride!
Juliette Barbier, also called Jules on occasion, is one of the co-owners of the public relations company previously mentioned. Juliette and Nadia have been partners for the past ten years and they co-own their flat which is located very close to Juliette's business. Juliette is unquestionably a workaholic and quite proud of the agency that she and Clair Cyr started. On the downside, Juliette feels her long-term relationship with Nadia is on the rocks and doesn't know what to do about it. However, the ups and downs...lefts and rights of their relationship is one of the key focal points in Episode One. Juliette is a bit of a prickly pear and as a long-term boss is used to getting her way. The glorious undercurrents for this soap opera-like beginning were just hilarious, amazing, and touching. Juliette is in pain and seemingly lost in her personal life and I am more than curious about how things will all progress. Break out another bottle of wine!
The two other characters who rotate along with Juliette and Nadia are Clair and Steph. Clair Cyr is Juliette's business partner and Steph is a real whiz at the company. Clair has been unattached for awhile and Nadia has invited a doctor from her hospital to a dinner party happening at Juliette and Nadia's home as a possible hookup for Clair. These four women all seem to know or want to know how each other's love life is shaking and will apparently jump in to assist at the drop of a hat. This becomes a major theme along with being a source of countless heartwarming incidents. It also provides an astonishing number of amusing situations. The threads and wonderfully scripted highs and lows are incredibly enjoyable to follow. I don't say this story is a soap opera as a demeaning designation, because the inter-involvement of these women in each other’s lives is extraordinarily fascinating and not a cookie cutter rehash. Plus it is a multi-player lesbian drama placing the viewpoint in a delightfully engaging perception. Remarkable!
To partially re-quote Bette Davis, “It is going to be a bumpy ride!” I want in and I certainly recommend this opening episode. Magnificent!
