Alexis and Allen reunite after the vampire Brisbois pays Alexis a visit in Montreal. Their happiness at being back together, however, is short-lived as Brisbois is now hot on Allen’s trail.

When Allen is abducted by Brisbois, Alexis knows only one thing—he will go to the ends of the Earth to save the man he desperately loves.

Book Review

This sequel to Florida Heat takes off pretty much exactly where it ended in book one. And yet, the feel of this sequel is entirely different. Where Alexis Kane, the Canadian profiler and super-rational cop, and Dr. Allen Petrie, the American forensic scientist with a belief in the supernatural, got to know each other in the first volume, here, they start as lovers. They have also both changed their view on vampires, since they now have incontrovertible proof of at least one such creature's existence. And, no surprise, that "creature" is back in this book – with a vengeance.

Alexis is now a little more open to emotions, and will admit he loves Allen deeply. But what he hadn't counted on was a visit from their nemesis, the vampire Brisbois. As soon as the two get together again when Allen visits, however, weirder things start happening and Alexis truly has his hands full. Gone are the days that he doubted the existence of vampires, all he is interested in now is how to get Allen back from the fiend then get rid of Brisbois forever.

Allen always knew there was more to life than what our senses can tell us, and he races to Alexis's side when he senses danger. Besides, he wants to see him again since he loves him and wants to figure out how to spend more time together. Getting abducted by the vampire he knows is still out there was not something he anticipated, and he has to fight harder than ever to maintain his humanity.
Where the first book began just like any "normal" murder mystery (if there is such a thing), grounded in the reality we all know, then slowly veered toward the supernatural, this second book is just as firmly grounded in the supernatural and introduces not just vampires but witches, soul-melding, and some truly weird and scary ideas about "what else" might be out there if we look closely. Add to that the strong love between Alexis and Allen, and you end up with a wonderfully horrific tale that kept me glued to my seat and scared to switch off the light when I go to bed. And, as seems typical for this series, just as I thought everything was solved, D.J. Manly comes up with a surprise that means there will have to be a third book. I, for one, look forward to it!

If you like a good, supernatural horror tale, if you enjoy vampires and what they get up to, and if you are looking for a read that successfully straddles the line between romance/love story and horror, then you will probably like this novel.
