Book Blurb

Jonathan comes to the Fletcher Lunatic Asylum to investigate reports of paranormal activity. The whole place gives him the creeps, but he needs to finish the case so the asylum's ghost-obsessed owner stops bothering him. When the owner won't go down into the basement of one of the buildings as he gives Jonathan the grand tour, Jonathan needs to find out why.

When Jonathan investigates, he finds a very real ghost haunting the old morgue. He'd expected that. He just didn't expect that ghost to be so interactive.

Book Review

When Jonathan, from 'Fletcher Lunatic Asylum' by Madeleine Ribbon, takes an assignment at an insane asylum the day before Halloween, he's not too optimistic about discovering anything of note, because many of these circumstances can be explained logically; but, since the owner swears up and down that he's experienced several paranormal events, he's obligated to try. As Jonathan arrives, he immediately picks up some strange, cold energy which makes him a little frightened and a little hopeful at the same time. Deep down, he'd welcome having a real paranormal experience. After getting the facts from the owner, Jonathan starts exploring the site, looking for the best places to position his equipment. As he proceeds, he notes things like the extreme temperature change, which usually heralds a supernatural presence. He listens for any untoward sight or sound.

Soon Jonathan's wish to discover something is fulfilled when he hears whispering and calls out to the sound. He is surprised when the whisperer answers him and says that his name is Ernie and he was a patient at the asylum and died there. Ernie is quite a prankster and loves to scare people because it keeps him entertained. Even ghosts get lonely sometimes. He agrees not to play tricks on Jonathan and seriously interacts with him. They strike up a conversation in which Ernie tells Jonathan that he was sent to the asylum because he's gay. Later, while Jonathan is in bed, Ernie comes to him, but this time, he has lasciviousness on his mind. He and Jonathan find that, with enough imagination, they can experience an intercourse which goes far beyond words.

This was a short, enjoyable Halloween-themed story with a frightening setting and an odd cast of characters, each influencing the story with their unique personalities. The atmosphere of an asylum automatically brought on a sense of suspense and dread which was perfect for the situation. I'd recommend this to anyone who wants a quick read with some scary circumstances, surprisingly hot sex, and paranormal investigations. Thanks, Madeleine, for getting us into the Halloween spirit.
