Deputy US Marshals Miro Jones and Ian Doyle are now partners on and off the job: Miro’s calm professionalism provides an ideal balance to Ian’s passion and quick temper. In a job where one misstep can be the difference between life and death, trust means everything. But every relationship has growing pains, and sometimes Miro stews about where he stands with his fiery lover. Could the heartstrings that so recently tied them together be in danger of unraveling?
Those new bonds are constantly challenged by family intrusions, well-intentioned friends, their personal insecurities, and their dangerous careers—including a trial by fire when an old case of Miro’s comes back to haunt them. It might just be enough to make Ian rethink his decision to let himself be tied down, and Miro can only hope the links they’ve forged will be strong enough to hold.
First edition published by Dreamspinner Press, September 2015.
“The thing was, though, Ian was one of those rare guys who wanted the one person in the world who fit him like a glove, and that person, it turned out, was me.”
Mary Calmes does not hold back with the emotions. Ian and Miro are jumping right into the heavy stuff and it's not working well for them. Miro wants to get married, in fact he got a ring and got down on one knee. Ian doesn't. Ian doesn't understand why. What difference would it make? He isn't going to love Miro any more or less just because of a ring and a piece of paper. Miro is devastated because he's positive that if he were a woman this wouldn't be an issue. Oy vey, Mary. Really? Right off the bat? You've got to have me dealing with my guys’ insecurities, and worrying about them?
"I would have laughed if I could have made the sound. Jesus, how stupid were they? The man was an egomaniac. There was no way in hell he’d ever leave Chicago. It was his city, he’d terrorized it, he’d been news, people still brought up his name in fear if a friend started dating a guy who seemed too good to be true."
Worse than the fact that my guys are out of the honeymoon phase and dealing with relationship issues, Mary had to bring back the one criminal who tried to kill Miro and who just escaped from prison. Prince Charming is what they called him, and it was the last case Miro worked as a police detective. Miro knows, even if the FBI doesn't understand, that Craig Hartley is never going to leave the area he terrorized. At least not until he's taken care of Miro and anyone who stands in his way.
As I've said many times before, this author never leaves the story as simple as the description. Oh no. 'Fit to be Tied' is an action/adventure from page one. Ian and Miro really don't know how to take it easy, and when they're sent undercover to the Marshal's office in Phoenix to keep them away from Craig, they discover how very different some offices are run compared to Sam Kage's. Since I live in Arizona, I found a lot of humor in some of that. Unfortunately, it wasn't funny when Craig did get a hold of Miro. The torture and degradation was horrible, and it was even less funny when he and Ian were reunited. Brought tears to my eyes.
I'm absolutely insane over this series and these guys. I love the glimpses of Sam Kage, but in the end, it's all about Miro and Ian. They are everything I could ever want in main characters, and why shouldn't they be? Mary Calmes wrote them. That's all I need to say. This is an excellent, madcap adventure story, with hot and sexy men, who struggle through some insecurities and vulnerabilities. It's enough to make a girl swoon. Bring on more, Mary. Please?
