Something big happened at the office Christmas party between Joseph and Carter, his coworker and ultimate crush. Too bad Joseph doesn’t remember it. Now, it’s New Year's Eve, and Joseph finds himself locked in the bathroom with Carter. Joseph doesn’t understand why his natural confidence fizzles out whenever Carter is around, but the man reduces him to an awkward mess. If he can just find the courage to be himself, there might be more fireworks in his future than the ones they watch from the balcony.
A story from the Dreamspinner Press 2015 Advent Calendar package "Sleigh Ride".
Office parties can be great sources of information and revelations around coworkers. But the levels of imbibing in all kinds of alcoholic beverages sometimes stop those newly found relationships from taking root – since nobody can build anything on a nonexisting memory. In this story, only Joseph has forgotten the details though, and Carter seems intent on reminding him. The result is an unexpected New Year’s celebration with fireworks both outside and between two men who have been attracted to each other for a while.
Joseph is a good employee, knowledgeable and reserved, totally in control. Except, that is, when Carter is around. The new guy at work turns Joseph into a total klutz, and while this embarrasses Joseph, it doesn’t stop him from being attracted to Carter. The scene in the bathroom at Joseph’s New Year’s party is funny, and it kicks off a discovery of more than joint resolutions for the coming year.
If you like short, snappy stories written with a great sense of humor, if two men who work together and would like to “play” together are your thing, and if you’re looking for a read that is as funny as it is hot, then you might like this short story about new beginnings.
