What happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas!
When Jerry Peterson’s brother Mike begs for help in paying off a Las Vegas gambling debt, Jerry reluctantly travels to the city he loathes. Things are even worse than he expected—his brother is being held hostage until the debt is paid.
Taylor Maitland is in Vegas writing an article on compulsive gambling, an addiction his father was unable to free himself from. When the two men meet, Taylor offers to help Jerry locate his brother and negotiate with the captors.
Despite the series of violent events that screw up their plans and have them dogged by two homicidal thugs, Jerry and Taylor are drawn together by their mutual attraction for one another, even finding time in between narrow escapes to indulge in some hot man lovin’!
Reader Advisory: This book contains some violence, references to suicide, spousal abuse and child abuse.
First Edition published under the title Dumping Las Vegas by Wilde City Press, 2014. It has been revised and re-edited for re-release with Pride Publishing. This book is the prequel to Breaking the Habit.
Because I'm not an only child I understand, all too well, the need to help a sibling when called upon. But I think Jerry has been enabling his brother, Mike, for way too long, and perhaps if he'd cut him off a while ago, Jerry wouldn't currently be in this situation. As you can guess, Mike is a gambling addict, and after borrowing money from the same loan sharks for too many months and not repaying, they're calling in the loan. This wouldn't be so bad except Mike owes them one hundred thousand dollars and Jerry doesn't have that kind of money. Luckily for Mike, he'd met Taylor, a freelance writer in Vegas doing a story about the compulsive nature of gambling. Mike had given Taylor a tip, Taylor bet on it and won one hundred twenty-five thousand dollars. Problem solved, right? Wrong.
Taylor is willing to split his winnings with Mike but that isn't enough to keep these guys from killing him. Mike calls Jerry and asks him to meet with Taylor and act as surety for the additional money that Taylor is going to front Mike. So Jerry drives to Vegas and meets up with, oh my, gorgeous Taylor. Now this could be simple, but that wouldn't make for a long story, so the hitch in all of this is that Taylor got his winnings in a check, not cash. No bank will cash it without being given three days, not even the casino bank, and the sharks want their money now or bones will be a'breaking. If only Jerry can convince these guys to give him more time, then maybe they can save Mike.
The drama with Mike ended rather quickly, which surprised me. However, it left time for Jerry and Taylor to consummate the lust that had been brewing between them and share their own sad, abused daddy stories. But, of course, the big thugs came back looking to get that check from Taylor. Why not? Their bosses had been killed by someone else so the money Taylor had was free and clear. And, according to Dumb and Dumber, it was all theirs. So, the action continues from Vegas to LA to San Diego with Jerry and Taylor thinking they've evaded these guys. No such luck.
If you like old-time, cheesy gangster movies, or even the Hangover movies, then this might be the story for you. It's definitely big on cheese, stereotypical New Jersey thugs, insta lust and love, plus a big helping of sex.
