When the world is on the line, will love be enough to save them all?
Farren Azar came to college to get his degree. However, he knew he couldn’t let anyone know about his djinn blood. The djinn had been exiled to a different plane, and if his heritage was discovered, he could be banished too. When a djinn and a fire god become involved in his life, he has to figure how to handle two powerful entities without losing himself.
Dan Stewartson knew Farren was the one. A glance between them had him hooked. When strange fires begin popping up around campus and fingers are pointed at Farren, Dan refuses to believe his lover could be responsible. Will he be able to save Farren’s reputation, or will secrets come between them and wreck their budding romance?
It’s been quite a while since I read the previous book in this series, and I am happy to finally be catching up with this series. ‘Farren’s Wizard’ continues the story of the Wizard Academy, an intriguing college for wizards of all kinds. In this third volume yet more details about this supernatural world emerge, and it becomes clear there is just as much prejudice and infighting as in any human society. With a mystery that needs solving, an overpowering enemy, and an emerging love between two wizards, the third installment of this series had me in suspense as well as thoroughly entertained by all the magic.
Farren is not “just” a wizard. His forbidden djinn-ancestry makes him a likely outcast, and worse, a potential danger to himself and others. His biggest fear is to lose control, but he is determined to pretend to be a fire wizard and to make it through college one way or another. His power may be a lot stronger than that of other wizards, but he has managed to delude himself into believing he can deal with it on his own. Not surprisingly, he learns that is not the case, and his journey toward seeing himself as part of a community and one half of a couple is an interesting one.
Dan is one of the three triplets who starred in both previous volumes. As “one of three” his biggest wish is to be seen as an individual, and when Farren manages to do just that, Dan is already half in love. Of course the fact they really like each other and are a perfect march in the bedroom helps as well. Dan may not be a werewolf, but he is certain Farren is “the One” – and nothing, not even an evil djinn or a conniving megalomaniac will be tolerated. Dan’s determination to show Farren exactly how much he loves him definitely comes in handy as they learn that they are stronger together than apart.
If you like stories about unusual wizards with hidden talents, if you enjoy reading about men who need to figure out how to work together by relying on each other, and if you're looking for a light, entertaining read with lots of hot wizard-on-wizard action, then you will probably like this novella.
