Olivia and Amelia are living together in a platonic relationship when an old lover of Olivia's, Parker Davis, asks for help. The deep sensual feelings Olivia had for Parker and buried for many years begin to surface and she is faced with a dilemma. Will she act on the carnal desire that Parker invokes in her or will she turn to Amelia?
This is the third book in the series 'When Hell Meets Heaven' and it is jammed full of high-tension action, miscued communication lines, powerfully exquisite emotions, and subtle loving messages. Phew! It also introduces and features a person from one of the main characters’ past, who barrels onto the scene involving everyone in a very dangerous life-and-death scenario. I would have appreciated a bit more back story on the new character, but getting to meet her family was a treat and somewhat illuminating. This series is fascinating in that each book, so far, has be noticeable in letting us see the recurring characters in a captivating collection of scenes, danger, and passionate interludes. I think it is certainly worth the ride!
Parker Davis, a private detective, is introduced in this book yet apparently is a previous lover of Olivia's. However, Parker takes a big chance when she asks for help from Olivia with her current case since Olivia cursed Parker to high heaven after she betrayed her years ago. Additionally, Parker seems attracted to Sophie Durant, initially her target, but then her client. Through all the tense action though, I continued to get hints from Parker that she seems to still love Olivia. That undercurrent is disquieting and somewhat disruptive in this rapidly moving, intensely pressured, high-stakes gambit. While I don't know the early Parker, she seems to currently have a disquieting undercurrent although she seems to possess a high level of skill and accomplishment. Parker is unquestionably a conundrum. Incredible!
Olivia Santos and Doctor Amelia West are business partners, live together, but are simply good friends especially from Amelia's point of view. Amelia committed a rather sticky faux pas in regard to her long-term best friend Teal who is also the office manager for both Olivia and Amelia. Amelia does seem to have mended fences with Teal and her committed female partner Phil. Additionally, Amelia seems to be coming to terms with her feelings towards Olivia. However, Amelia gets really thrown for a loop prior to perceiving Olivia and Parker's relationship, when a current bed partner of Olivia's comes looking for her at the shared business office. Amelia hasn't quite left the nunnery in spirit, even though officially she has, and can get very twisted into heavy-duty knots by how she perceives things within her personal world through her religious training. Her psychological expertise seems to let her down a bit in this arena. Within Amelia's world, she is very shaken to officially learn that Olivia is a lesbian, then she got tossed and turned when Parker was introduced, and Olivia and Amelia were drawn into her case. Within Olivia's world, her innards are wracked by her history, some of her heinous actions, and her collection of sex partners. Yet she seems to have an extraordinary capability to love nearly unconditionally and eternally. She and Amelia seem to have almost a cosmic connection, but that also leaves them vulnerable to horrific emotional suffering possibly self-induced. Trauma personified!
Parker’s case is the primary story, but how Amelia and Olivia deal with their feelings, their multi-level connections, and potential long-term relationship really weaves in and out of everything. Trying to follow all that happens to Amelia and Olivia is like being on the sea in a small wooden ship during a wicked storm. However, even if things seem temporarily lost to the two of them, I believed they have the stuff to rise above all the trauma. I recommend you do not miss this book within the series. Magnificent!
