Duke Peterson is an Alpha wolf, leading a pack with his three Alpha brothers. With misfortune having struck the pack, Duke has a lot of questions on his mind. He figures the library at his old college is as good a place as any to start looking for some answers. However, he doesn't quite make it that far when his instincts have him heading to class instead. There, in front of almost fifty students, Duke sees the man of his dreams, Matthew Wilkerson. One slight panic attack later and Duke is ready to have a bunch of new questions answered, though he has a feeling that figuring out his mate will be a lot more enjoyable. First things first though, Duke has to figure out what his mate is, because instincts tell him his mate is a shifter, but he definitely isn't wolf.
Having recently finished book one in the 'Pack Leaders' series involving Bailey finding his mate, Jeremy, and covering a lot of the brothers’ back story, I was excited to delve into the next installment. Duke doesn't like change, so the fact that one brother has found his mate has Duke a little rattled worrying about what will happen when he finds his. More than that though, their two missing pack members have still not been found with no trace having been left, not even scent. This is really worrying Duke and his three brothers, as the four of them are alpha of their pack and missing pack members doesn't bode well.
Duke is the bookworm of the brothers although certainly not in looks. He's just as big as the other three. Duke loves learning and his bedroom looks almost like a library with all the bookcases and books everywhere. I might have been a little partial to Duke for that reason! Duke has a mini panic attack (see, change!) when he finds his mate, Matthew, at the local college. Duke was heading to the library but his body turned him in a much better direction. Interestingly, Matthew is not a wolf, he's a cat, which is truly all kinds of sexy. I'm not going to tell you what kind of feline he is though…it's a spoiler and pretty awesome.
Duke and his brothers discover that other packs in the area have got missing members all under the same conditions. They agree to work with the other alphas to see if they can figure out what's going on. It helps that Matthew teaches psychology and his minor is in criminology. Matthew has some crazy human stalker on his tail though. A human who knows about shifters and Matthew is worried he'll track him down and hurt someone. Turns out the psycho might know something about the missing pack members so Matthew puts himself up as bait.
An exciting and action-packed addition to the series. I would have loved Duke and Matthew's story being longer but I can't complain because I certainly had fun. I'm definitely looking forward to whichever brother is coming up next.
