Nickel might be a water elemental dragon, but even he has limits—and the sudden rain storms, hail, and snow in mid-summer are way over the line. Luckily, he works for Dane's Supernatural Consulting firm and can use those resources to figure out who keeps mucking with the weather and get them to stop.
Soon Nickel realizes he isn’t the only one searching for the weather worker: the enemy he has been hunting for ten years has finally reappeared, and it’s a race to see who will reach the weather worker first. Nickel isn’t certain he’ll win, or even survive, the attempt, but he’ll do whatever it takes to save the dragons.

It is about time I catch up with this series - full of dragon shifters and their magic, witches, half gods, and evil scientists out to harness the dragons’ powers for nefarious purposes. Dane (half god and in charge of a supernatural detective agency) and his partner Mercury (dragon shifter and SupFed working with the FBSI) are raising the seven dragon kits they rescued from the labs about ten years ago. And to my great delight this fourth book focuses on one of the older kits – Nickel.
Nickel, who is now eighteen, has intrigued me since the beginning. Not just because he is a rare water dragon, but also because he is super intelligent and already involved in much of the work Dane and Mercury are doing to keep the world safe for everyone, but especially for helpless dragons who are being experimented on in labs. And this time, his talents are especially needed as he plays a major role in finding the enemy who is messing with the weather and who knows what else. He very cleverly goes undercover online, is exposed to more danger than anyone is comfortable with, and has an encounter with a newly rescued dragon that is just about to begin changing both their lives on a very personal level.
There are quite a few revelations about the underlying plot of this series as well, none of which I can talk about without spoiling the whole thing. But I can say that some of the mystery around Lumie, one of the younger dragon kits, is lifted, and it opens up some pretty amazing possibilities for where this series might go next.
If you like stories about dragons who have supernatural and magical powers, if you want to see how family life – and drama – in Mercury and Dane’s little family of adopted dragon kits develops, and if you’re looking for a read that is as full of mystery and action as it is entertaining, then you will probably like this novella as much as I do. I think it’s another fantastic addition to a wonderful series, and I can’t wait to read the next one.
