Some relationships, or so it seems, are doomed from the start. Ben, an attorney from California, and Zack, a biology teacher in New York, have to face not only a sixteen-year age difference, but the fact that they live at opposite ends of the country. Despite the short time they spend together when Ben visits Zack’s sister (his best friend), the attraction is strong and both men need to think about the implications of wanting to continue what they have started. This is a very moving story about friendship, loyalty, and two men who are clearly meant for each other – if they can only figure out how to make it work.

Ben is an amazing guy. He is caring, nurturing, and loyal. So when his best friend Josie, whom he has only ever met over the Internet, takes a bad fall and her younger brother Zack calls Ben to let him know, there is only one thing Ben wants to do. With Zack’s permission he hops on a plane and ends up being there for both of them. The attraction he feels for Zack is strong, but Ben keeps telling himself he is too old, and that there is no point because it can’t go anywhere. Little does he know how determined Zack can be!

Zack knows about Ben’s existence from what his sister has told him. Meeting him in person is very different, and having his support when Zack is alone and vulnerable is a lifesaver. Zack wants more, but figures if a one-night stand is all he can have, he’ll take it. Once he gets to know Ben a little better though, Zack realizes a one-time tumble between the sheets can never be enough, and he develops a long-time plan. The sizzle between them is amazing, and at the end of Ben’s visit both men know they want more.

If you like stories with lots of emotion, if romances with obstacles are your thing, and if you’re looking for a read that is as angsty as it is heartwarming, then you will probably like this novella.
