Book Blurb

Sergeant Jason Holt and his boyfriend Sergeant Patrick Wentworth have been in a secret relationship for almost ten years. When the daily paper brings news of the repeal of the military’s ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy, they think their prayers have finally been answered. Yet things aren’t always as easy as they seem, with not everybody at work supportive of their lifestyle and even their parents skeptical. Will they finally be able to be out and proud?

Book Review

The issue of dealing with DADT is still in full swing, but this book begins just after the official repeal and follows a committed couple, Jason and Patrick, as they discuss what to do. Going from hiding their love for ten years to figuring out when and how to come out, both at work and with Jason's parents is not as easy as it may sound. This is not an angsty book though, as the focus is squarely on Jason and Patrick's relationship with only a few minor incidents. It's a good sketch of the kind of thing that might happen, rather than a dramatization with lots of conflict.

Jason is the more forceful of the two men, but he is also the more rational. Caution is what they need at first, if they want to protect their jobs, and he is the one who pushes for holding back until the dust has settled. Patrick, a more impulsive man, has a harder time with it, but once they come out? There is no holding him back. They were hot together before the ban was lifted, but once they are out? There is no holding Patrick back – and Jason loves every second of it. Against the wall, in the shower, or in bed, these two go at it whenever they possibly can.

If you like stories about military men, if you prefer your stories angst-free, entertaining and hot, and if you're looking for a read that will make you smile, you will probably like this short story.
